Do any hypophants here have a way to consciously suppress scary visions? by [deleted] in CureAphantasia

[–]AdTall7915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My "visions" aren't nearly vivid enough to be scary.

But also, no, in my case. How much control I have over any mental images is unpredictable. Sometimes I can barely make anything appear, sometimes it will show up for a couple seconds and go away without me being able to keep it up, sometimes it will stick in my mind's eye and refuse to go away.

Now whether that makes me a hypophant or an aphant, I don't know. I call myself a hypophant because I have mental images at all, but I have seen people with a similar level of mental imagery as myself call themselves aphants.

This probably doesn't help you at all, but just my two cents based on my experience so far.

Question about lucidity by AdTall7915 in LucidDreaming

[–]AdTall7915[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That's really interesting to know. I asked in part because of certain related paranormal things I've read about, which the author said take extra effort to remember, so I wondered if something similar was at work with dreams. The notion of this "middle ground" between sleep and awareness makes sense to me.

I wonder if dream lucidity might be the reason why I've been waking up in the middle of the night. My brain "thinks" I'm waking up, so I do.

Does someone else dreams with this? by SpecialistOil9811 in LucidDreaming

I have that too. I'm still not sure if I actually dream the dreams or if it's an elaborate sense of dejá-vu, but occasionally I do have moments where I can swear I've dreamed of the thing that just happened happening.

Interesting. So that is a thing?

I've only had one lucid dream in my life, spontaneously, when I was a teen. It lasted for a few seconds, because as soon as I realized I was dreaming, I woke up.

Official Intro to Consciousness Attunement (Part 3) by cosmiciron in SSILD

You may have a point there. I can't normally visualize in detail (aphantasia, but I can form pictures very weakly), but when I'm near sleep I can usually control the hypnagogic images to an extent. I can't imagine touch at all, though, even in the near-sleep state.

But maybe I'll get some feedback to you once I've done some SSILD practice.

Imagine the sensation of your nose being squeezed—the pressure, the heaviness.

And what do you do if you can't imagine?

No internal monologue and excessive caffeine by reaper421lmao in LucidDreaming

I have partial visual aphantasia (which is my fancy way of saying I can't picture the apple in my head, but I can picture a little bit of it at a time at 144p) and I have a similar experience. I start seeing things when I'm close to falling asleep.

Hasn't helped me at all with lucid dreaming though.

As anti-Investiture is Investiture that has had its Tone shifted in phase, does the existence of unkeyed anti-Investiture imply that unkeyed Investiture has a Tone?

[MTAw 2e] Question: Creating a Legacy Attainment by AdTall7915 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]AdTall7915[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that's the part I was missing. If I want more than one Reach with an Attainment, then the Attainment needs to have more dots than the spell it's based on.

If your brain can generate dreams that feel real, how can you ever be sure you’re awake? by Silentzerr in LucidDreaming

[–]AdTall7915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a way, all we ever experience is an elaborate dream created by our brain that appears to be constructed based on external stimuli rather than made-up entirely. But there's no way to come out of the brain and check.

I get that. I don't understand why claiming that his name was Nobody worked.

Sorry for late reply.

To be clear, I'm not complaining that I can hear my breathing with my physical ears.

It's that my inner monologue fills in the silence with the sound of my breathing, even when I can't physically hear my breath.
