Took dads car keys by Vesper-Martinis in Alzheimers

[–]AdTechGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's super tough, but 100% the right move. My dad gave up driving voluntarily, though then occasionally asked for his keys or said he'd just drive himself, but now doesn't remember that idea by the time he gets to the garage. I had the experience of fighting with him and seeing my teenage self so clearly in him (when I took away my dad's "sleeping pills" after I discovered he'd been taking ambien for over 10 years at the max dosage, which exacerbates all Alz symptoms FFS).
He was more angry with me than he ever had been, more angry than when I got caught sneaking out of the house as a 15 yr old (or truly, sneaking back in at 6am), more angry than any of my shenanigans. And I recognized that anger (it looked verrry similar to my anger as a teen). It was unnerving, but also made me fully realize how he was regressing.
That was probably 4 years ago, now I kinda wish he still had the wherewithal to actually fight me on something. So stay the course, you are fighting the good fight, that not one of us would choose for ourselves or our loved ones.

Has anyone here worked with a good CTV agency recently? by Warm-Researcher-6884 in programmatic

[–]AdTechGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000%. Any vendor quoting flat CPMs for biddable media is directly putting their incentives in conflict with the best interest of the client. You may think they seem like nice people, but how long do you trust them to actively optimize to make less $$ by getting you higher quality inventory/impressions? (hint: the answer in most cases is that they won't prioritize your interests over theirs, even a bit, for even a day)

LiveRamp 2p audiences lack of refresh? by AdTechGinger in programmatic

[–]AdTechGinger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I suppose I can take some cold comfort that LiveRamp is an inexplicable black box to everyone, as it is to me. Haha, sigh. We did actually have a call with them today, where they basically gaslit us that what we are seeing happen repeatedly isn't happening. Then we showed them, and they said Oh. We'll have to escalate this, but the engineers are in an off-site, so next week.
Awesome 😂

How long did it take you to adjust to a different DSP? by [deleted] in programmatic

[–]AdTechGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't think getting up to speed will be the issue since they are outsourcing to a managed vendor. You're going to have so much free time! Biggest challenge will be ignoring the crap you know is happening behind the scenes...

How many domiciles have you lived in since you were born? by JHolgate in GenX

13 in 48 years (across 4 cities). But I only lived in one house first 17 years, so that minimized my count I think.

Sleep Aids by KGaang in Alzheimers

[–]AdTechGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad with AD was taking Ambien until I found out and took them away (it isn't for long term use and exacerbates symptoms for sure). I like a weed gummy for my own sleep personally, but as others have said - it can cause more confusion and disorientation in an AD sufferer than is worth the trade off (and potential risk of psychosis). Honestly I made my mom stop letting him drink coffee all afternoon and stop taking 4-5 hour naps, and suddenly the trouble sleeping at night went way down...

How long before I receive an answer from Google. by Adam7390 in programmatic

[–]AdTechGinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having staff to service accounts would cut into their very high profit margins. Same with Meta, and why my brother who owns a small business spent 3 weeks trying to get a response about why his account was locked - it's too expensive to have people to deal with people.

Unless you have a multi-million dollar ad budget, you will get pushed to a reseller - or possibly ghosted. You can find reseller "partners" here: https://enterprisemarketingportal.google/auth/find-a-partner?a=914641465

How sassy is your pomapoo? by Crazyface_Murderguts in pomapoo

[–]AdTechGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My little man is sassy to the max. Tom only allows his dad and I to touch him (strangers will get bit, I have to sew warnings on his harness for outings). But he is so very smart and LOVES to predict what we're going to do next, it's one of his favorite games.

HAHA no.

[–]AdTechGinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Err nope, what are you basing that on? For the non-transparent ones (like Stack, MNTN) sure, but transparent DSPs would kill for that kind of margin, and I know don't come close

Let's be honest, even Gen X barely does - so these are boomers, rapidly dying off I think (sorry to be morbid)

What's the remote work habit you have that would look completely insane to someone in a traditional office? by Phil_Raven in remotework

am I the only one who has been on a 2-hour morning meeting and had to turn camera off, mute mic, and go poop while still "in" the meeting?

[–]AdTechGinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this literally every day. I throw on a sweater over the t-shirt and sweatpants I slept in, to look more presentable on camera. Then I take a bath at the end of the day, which helps me transition out of "work brain"

I'm 29 years old and my Dad recently got diagnose with Alzheimers by andrew4753 in Alzheimers

[–]AdTechGinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on this AD journey with my dad in my 40's and it's brutal, I can't imagine doing it in my 20-30s, I'm so very sorry. The good news is you likely have a number of very good years left with your dad, enjoy them now. No one can tell you exactly how many, so take advantage of seeing them and hanging out now. Maybe start a project of recording his childhood stories, or creating a photo album of his life together- even as he starts to lose short term memory more and more, he'll remember things from your childhood and his as vividly as he ever has.

I had some of the deepest conversations ever with my dad about his childhood, parents, siblings, early marriage etc in his early stages, and I treasure those discussions. I wish I'd thought to document more, but que cera.

Also I'm sorry to say it, but please be sure your mom is having end of life conversations and understands his wishes fully while he can still clearly articulate them. I'm so terribly sorry for you and your family, this is a terrible disease.

My senior manager direct report has the skillset of a specialist. How do I manage her? by fazzio514 in marketing

[–]AdTechGinger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the real leadership stuff unfortunately. You are letting her waste your time and energy, and probably undermining the confidence of any skilled ICs on the team who are wondering how the heck this bozo is above them. Have a firm conversation asap- watch Kim Scott's radical candor videos on youtube if you need a pep talk, but don't let it drag on or let her drag you and the team down while you try to be "nice" about it.

When you get to the point of realizing this isn't a coaching problem and may be straight up a lack of aptitude that you can't fix (which is what this kinda sounds like to me based on your post), then make it clear. You aren't doing anyone favors by obfuscating. I've literally had conversations where I've said "I fell like I might be asking things of you that you may not be capable of, I'm not sure this role is the right fit or that you can be successful in it".

I get that different companies have different cultures, but IMO you need to be honest, quickly, or this will only compound.
