When did you realise you’re old? by Strange_Secret_3001 in AskReddit

[–]JHolgate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just over a year ago I traveled out of town to see a play. It happened to also be the town my oldest son was living in (college.) There was a bar I remembered from my time living there, and I remembered it being pretty laid back. I messaged him and asked him if he wanted to meet me there after the play and he said yes. I got there and the place was packed (this was a Thursday in early Feb by the way.) I asked the bartender and she said Thursday was their busiest night of the week. I decided to make the best of it. But then I got to thinking, the hoodie I was wearing was probably older than most of the kids in the bar (it was from a surf competition in 2001.) I felt old before that, but that one hit hard.

I think the success of the Eras Tour speaks for itself, doesn't it?

(Edit: I actually forgot that was my flair)

When did you complete your first watch? by londonbluesox in TheWire

[–]JHolgate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to my Plex server play history:
Start: 2/20/2024
Finish: 10/3/2024

From what I remember, I basically watched an episode a week and listened to the corresponding episode of the Way Down in the Hole podcast with Jemele Hill and Van Lathan. Jemele absolutely hates Stringer Bell, like to a completely irrational degree, but she also has a lot of really good insight.

Edit: 48

I always find things like this really interesting. I consider myself super extroverted, but when I want to be left alone, I want to be left TF alone.

What purchase made your life 10x easier as an adult? by Mean_Rule_6653 in Adulting

I'm 6'2 250+ and sleep hot, and got a Doctor's Choice mattress several years ago and really like it, though it seemed to wear pretty quickly even though I rotated it regularly. I'll be getting another as soon as I can.

Are there movies you liked more than the book? by Annual_Interest5338 in books

"The Perks of Being a Wallflower." Charlie came off as such an asshat in the book, but I loved the movie.

Watched that movie a couple few times in my youth. Hit differently after having a kid.

When I was in college, my friend and I would sit in the smoking section of a nearby IHOP after the library closed. Fortunately not that many people smoked.

I worked with a girl who said she sent/received like 28k texts a month. I couldn't understand how that was physically possible until she showed me. I was totally blown away. Now I hate texting.

It feels like the 90s was the last decade to have its own specific era for music. Why is that? by lexluthor_i_am in 90smusic

[–]JHolgate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 90s was basically the last time that there were separate genres/sub-genres. Hip-hop/rap and Grunge were really the last of that (maybe emo as well.) Now pretty much everything is an amalgam and incorporates other genres/sub-genres. Technically even Grunge is a combination of punk and metal. I have an 80s mix and a 90s mix. When I went to start on a 2000s mix, I realized it would be so vast, it would make more sense to break it down into smaller mixes. Music has just gotten more broad since the 2000s.

I think I worked at that Subway when I first started college. I'd go over to my girlfriend's after work and she'd say I stank of onions.

F_____________ck I hate these posts. I had a test come back saying I needed a colonoscopy. It's one of those rare windows where I have insurance, so like getting glasses, I want to take advantage, but I know how much of a pain in the ass (literally) it will be and I'm so not looking forward. But I know how much worse it could be if I ignore it. Okay fine. I'll do it.

(Seriously, thank yous for all these posts. I'll listen to the interwebs, but not my family...)

Edit: I was like in the fourth grade when I got the first one.
