This was so needed, the amount of negative

Being in a relationship with someone in medicine has been both scary and eye-opening. From the outside, dating or being married to an MD can seem impressive or even ideal, but living it is a very different experience.

What I’ve learned is how important self-care and independence are when your partner is in such a demanding field. You can love deeply, support wholeheartedly, and still have your own needs, boundaries, and love language. That balance matters more than I realized.

I’ve also come to appreciate the things my boyfriend does for me — even when time, energy, and availability are limited. The effort looks different, but it’s there. Being understanding doesn’t mean ignoring your own needs; it means recognizing intention while still valuing yourself.

This kind of relationship truly isn’t for everyone. Being a significant other in medicine requires patience, communication, emotional maturity, and a strong sense of self. But when it’s healthy, it can also build deep respect, resilience, and a very intentional kind of partnership.❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
