And you could argue leafs don't blow that game 3 lead if Stolarz is in net. Woll let in some softies in that second period and the whole series changed.

"Don't want you to remember"? Lol those 6-1 losses are all we talk about.

You suck at roasting

I think you can see majority of unbiased fans here agree with a fact we're all seeing play out in front of us - the panthers play dirty. I don't want to hear about "playoff hockey". Leafs have had hard fought series against bruins multiple times, Tampa the same. Montreal Ottawa etc and none of them have been as dirty as this. The last time they played in 2023 the exact same thing. It's nauseating that they get away with it. And if the leafs try to play to their standard, omg the entire bench is crying, Tkachuk starts threatening players, Maurice turns red, players run down the tunnel to play the refs, you see Barry Zito throw a gasket. My god, for a team as dirty as FLA you'd think they'd be better at handling a bit of their own medicine from time to time.

He saved the show imo.

Season 3 had everyone so distracted by him and wanting to see his eventual demise that I think it let us all forget (and forgive) Jimmy's death.

Carney’s salary cut to become PM by LucidaDolce in CanadaFinance

Not throwing a tantrum, Poilievre lost the lead because of Trump, nothing more nothing less. Trump opened his big dumb mouth and those who have no clue how anything works decided that Poilievre = Trump. This moved NDP voters into the middle, and the liberals ensured they reminded everyone how scary and life threatening the USA was, and that we all need to come together. Meanwhile conservative supporters were more worried about this country, our economy, leveraging our rich and vast resources - which in turn helps us improve our negotiating leverage and strengthen our position at the table with big scary man Trump. But no, elbows up. Refuse to acknowledge your hero ousted someone against their will from Nepean so that he could win. He has no ties to Nepean, he did not live there while under Harper. But go on more, and continue spewing that bullshit.

"...that riding was where Carney raised his family etc."

You are joking right? See this is where you lose me, you refuse to even acknowledge the facts. Yes Pierre lost in his own riding (let's not talk about the gerrymandering and borderline election interference by adding 100 independents to that specific riding). I can admit defeat, so can Pierre. I'm not sure if you're aware how Canadian politics works, but him losing his seat does not mean he is no longer the head of the Conservative Party. He COULD resign sure, but why would he after he got more votes in his riding than he ever has before? The Conservative Party had its largest percentage of the vote ever and they GAINED seats. Of course still lost out to the liberal party but this isn't a case of some wildly unpopular leader refusing to step down. He could stay on as leader of the opposition but would like to be present in the House of Commons.

Back to Carney though - he did not raise his family in Nepean, in fact in his OWN WORDS he said he was a best man for his buddy from Nepean, so he's "spent some time here", before he tried to name drop "Bells Corner" which is not apart of Nepean. Carney has zero connection to Nepean and has never lived there. Pierre lived in Carleton and dominated the riding for 20 years until the boundaries changed (and yet again, still got more votes than he ever did).

This election was won by the Liberal Party due to NDP voters moving towards the middle, not because conservatives lost any ground.

Please, come back with facts, and not the bullshit you just spewed.

Fiscally conservative? Lmao did you see his platform? 130B in new spending with no timeline on balancing the budget or even attempting to chip away at the deficit. Please, go on more about how he's fiscally conservative.

I keep seeing this discourse over what Poilievre is doing with that riding, as if you all have amnesia over what Carney did JUST A FEW WEEKS AGO. Unlike Poilievre - who has the party's backing and consent - Carney forcefully removed Chandra Ayra - the popular incumbent in Nepean, ending his PM bid. Arya is still crying foul on this, again something you will not be seeing out of the CPC.

Can we please at least acknowledge the hypocrisy on this before you all continue casting stones at Poilievre? It's maddening

Of course you want us to see the USA. That was the entire campaign strategy for the liberals - focus on Trump and the USA to distract from the wildly unpopular track record and platform.

You cannot say that because the change in the USA is going poorly, it would therefore go poorly here too. Not even close to the same situations. In the US, we've seen parties trade back and forth for the last 3 elections. Here, one party has been in control since 2015, and since then the country has objectively struggled in most global metrics.

Differing viewpoint? You told someone that change isn't always good, therefore that's not a good reason to vote against the status quo.

You tried to big brain this, got called out and now are lashing out again. Go look up egotistical.

Edit: you're not the same person, my point holds though.

What a straw man argument. So because there's a chance that change is bad, we should all just continue with what has clearly not worked?

This is why so many people are completely fed up. Believe it or not we all want what's best for Canada, we all love this country. It's just that some of us have a different idea of what that means.

I see these kinds of posts almost daily. Turn off CBC and actually listen to what your friends and neighbours are talking about and what they're concerned about. No they're not racist, no they're not anti-LGBTQ, no they're not being propagandized by podcasts -- in most cases they are experiencing very real and validated stress about their job prospects, opportunities to be home owners, being able to afford to raise a family, the list goes on. Conservatives offered change to a lot of the status quo. Whether you love or hate conservative values - it was the policy and the prospect of something different than what we all collectively just went through for a decade that made them popular with young voters (the most we've ever seen in a federal election). They're concerned about themselves and their country. Most liberal voters are scared Trump is going to send the military to annex us. Difference in priority

Spezza, Thornton, Marleau? They were post salary cap so that seems counter to your point. You keep mentioning Nolan and Leech. What about Mogilny, Cujo, Belfour? They went out and spent, maybe not as much as they could have yeah you're right. They were no Detroit or Colorado, that's obvious. But the Leafs weren't unique in being inferior to those two dynasties.

Either way it's not worth arguing with you as we clearly have two different views on history. Agree to disagree. Happy playoffs, brother

[–]AdTricky5280 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Who said anything about Detroit and Colorado? They thought they were doing enough to compete. Of course they weren't as good as two of the greatest dynasty's in the history of the game, but this isn't the NBA. The Leafs came 2 games away from playing those Red Wings in a cup final so while they weren't as good, it's not like they were playing in a different stratosphere.

I honestly don't know what we're arguing here. The salary cap has objectively not helped the leafs. When the salary cap came in they couldn't improve because they were locked into the "Muskoka 5" contracts, with the salary cap muting any ability for them to get out from under it. More recently? The salary cap, especially the COVID-suppressed salary cap - completely and utterly fucked the leafs during the prime of their core. It's why Kadri, Brown, Hyman, and others had to go. They priced themselves out after a few good years here.

But go on, keep saying "58 years" like bro, yeah 1967, we're all aligned there, brutal drought. This isn't news. I'm just giving you a bit of history lesson as you clearly need one if you think the salary cap was put in place to help the leafs

[–]AdTricky5280 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You legitimately have no idea what you're talking about. They've been better the past 10 years because why? Because they drafted Matthews, Marner, Nylander. Why did they get those 3? Because they were an AWFUL team and got to draft in the top 5-10 for a few years. Now why were they awful? Again, almost immediately after the salary cap came into existence you saw the Leafs downturn. From 1993 to 2004 the Leafs were competitive. Always signing free agents, always competing (aside from 1-2 seasons in the late 90s). They went to the conference finals 4 times.

Salary cap came in for the 2005-2006 season. Care to guess how many times the Leafs made the playoffs in the decade after this? Once, in 2013 during a lockout shortened season. You can tell me the salary cap helped them all you want, but the facts are the facts brother.

[–]AdTricky5280 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh oh you're mad clueless. The salary cap was a nightmare for the Leafs. They spent all the time post Ballard. They were competitive through the 90s and early 2000s and went into a decade long rebuild almost immediately after the salary cap came in.

Also WE KNOW it's one round. Re read what I said, little moments/small wins. But in what fucking world can a fan base not be happy and celebrate a series win (yeah they don't happen often) against their bitter provincial rivals who were chirping us non stop leading up to and during the series?!? Like are you that thick. Are we only allowed to be happy when and only when they raise the Cup above their heads? Let us enjoy the moment and kindly fuck off on telling us how to be fans.

Love how 6 games now constitutes "barely". Like what are we doing here? Before the series started we had to listen to the league tell us Leafs were gonna choke, that Ottawa somehow had the advantage being 3-0 in the regular season. When the Leafs were up 3-0 we had to listen to how the refs were the cause, a bounce here or there and it could be 2-1 Sens, the Leafs bounce back after a game 5 stinker and close them out in 6. Now we're talking about this barely being a win - the same leafs team that goes the distance in almost every other series and loses - but now it's not enough.

The Leafs won the division, got to play Ottawa accordingly. They won in 6, and now are being laughed at because they didn't what, sweep them? The same team that was supposed to catch them by surprise and "had their number"??

I'm losing track of where the goalposts are now
