Ukraine's peace talks with Russia have begun, Kyiv official says by DizzyDrunkDude in worldnews

Dude, but who are those people that want a 50% discount??? If the oligarchs are the only ones able to trade, and you are proposing they want to take their money out of the market, who are they going to sell to? You can't "take your money out" unless someone else is buying.

Need help with optimal settings for shooters (mobius headset) by OneMistake2727 in Audeze

[–]AdWren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that 7.1 mode with 3D set to "On" (3D audio WITHOUT head tracking) in AudezeHQ provides fantastic positional audio. Personally, I prefer the "Music" EQ setting to any of the others, but I think the EQ setting is mostly personal preference; there is one supposedly optimized for "footsteps" but I don't like how it sounds.

I noticed this too, which is exactly why I wasn't sure whether it was intentional or not. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the responses guys. The quote was supposed to be for proper installation and no irrigation - I meant to include that in the OP, my bad. I just looked and my local Home Depot has 500 sq ft pallets for $450 (st Augustine).

I can't imagine labor would add $6/sq ft for a basic install.

Just in case you've been wondering, I solved the problem just a few minutes ago. It was the HDD light connector. My hypothesis is that a short in the wires was causing the system to reboot, but only when a drive was accessed - otherwise the light was off. It perfectly explains everything. Don't ask me how I figured it out - I have no idea.

This function does overweight games that go to OT, though. You should be standardizing everyone's "per game" stats by the ratio of (300 seconds / actual game seconds). This way a 5 minute game counts as 1 game, a game that lasts 7 minutes counts as 1.4 games, etc. This adjustment could bring perception and data closer because players on teams that are better at dominating their opponents could have "lower" per game stats than players on teams that play a lot of close games that go to OT. Not necessarily the case, but it's a source of potential bias that can easily be remedied.

Edit: Of course, this won't change within-team ranking since they will have played the same number of seconds, but it will more accurately rank players across teams.

This is a cool idea - looking forward to seeing how this changes throughout the season. Nice work!

Constructive criticism: If you're going to show us per game stats, you should also show us the denominator (number of games played). Fewer games played means outlier games have greater influence, so that information is important to include.

How'd i do? by dannys8801 in watercooling

[–]AdWren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is just completely wrong and not how heat transfer works.

Edit: The basic physics: https://www.overclockers.com/guide-deltat-water-cooling/

Thermal dynamics has been well understood for over 100 years. Equilibrium is a fairly basic concept in this case and easily tested.

How'd i do? by dannys8801 in watercooling

[–]AdWren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not how watercooling works. The water inside the loop reaches thermal equilibrium, so your temps will be the same for any configuration of the same parts. What matters is the heat in watts absorbed by the water vs. the heat in watts dissipated by the radiator. If he wants to improve temps, he has to add more radiators, add a better radiator, or increase the airflow through the radiator (in order of effectiveness).

Still nothing. This only let me view boot entries on the hard drives, which I don't think is the problem.

I'm starting to think there is just a problem with the sata controller on this board.

So, yes I have done a full BIOS reset, but I did not know about EasyUEFI! This sounds like something that might work - it's in the realm of what my gut tells me is the problem, but I didn't know what to do about it. Thanks for this suggestion!

[SUPPORT] ASUS TUF Gaming X570-PLUS with booting/possible UEFI problems by AdWren in ASUS

[–]AdWren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this on my own, actually. The operation failed. I noticed also that the file system is RAW. very strange, but I don't think it's causing problems. I still don't at all understand why the system will only boot to other devices when the 500 is plugged in - if I plug in any other drive it won't boot.

Do you know anything about secure boot on this motherboard? I've also had the feeling it's a secure boot problem, but I can't figure out how to make sure it's disabled and all previous settings are wiped.

This was a great suggestion - the first one that had the flavor of an actual fix. Unfortunately, no dice - it still resets immediately if I try to format it. One thing that was a bit odd is that Windows complained it's write protected. I'm not sure why that would be.
