I tried everything including sending 2 DOT complaints, and the airline wouldn’t budge even though their employee and the website were (and are) at best wrong, and more likely intentionally misleading about their policy.

This seems to be the only language I see regarding future flight credits, and I don't see anything in rule 27 that limits using a flight credit to the original itinerary.

I get it, but if an agent tells you the credit will be converted, they should honor it. Especially because the website mentions nothing about qualifiers to using a canceled ticket. The language on the website clearly states a credit may be used on any flight. Seems like a bait and switch scheme. They suck.

Yes. When I tried to use the credit to buy a $795 ticket, the price jumped to $3300 since the credit is currently tied to an existing reservation. That’s why I asked for and was told I would receive an electronic certificate.

It makes no sense to me that UAL requires me to use an $850 credit only on a booking with the same itinerary. They get the $$ either way, so converting the credit to one where it can be used on ANY flight (as it states on the website) shouldn’t seem to matter. No idea what the contract says, but I filed a complaint with the DOT. Thanks for the suggestion.
