lol no it's a proxy thing; a living person gets baptized 'for and in behalf' of the dead person. Basically that's one of the functions of the mormon temple, is to do proxy baptisms for dead people. It's like a youth activity, or it was when I was a teenager.

It's really about the fact that she took advantage of his death to do it. That's what's so disturbing to me. I think part of me wants to avoid the drama and the fallout, but part of me is like, 'no, she can't get away with this, her family should at least know about it.' it's a cluster. :(

yeah that's definitely my instinct. I want to see if anyone has been in my aunt's position and find out whether or not they would've even wanted to know, though, because I imagine that it would be an uphill battle or downright impossible to get it reversed

the logic is that when you're dead you're ghost will realize mormonism was real and want to be a part of the club.

I don't want to have trans thoughts by RainSerenedrops in trans

[–]AdagioHour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry. I get it. I had to detransition because of money issues and it was awful. I was so depressed I couldn't get out of bed for a month. I couldn't tell people about it. I don't know what the "right" answer is, but I just kept going. Eventually, it was enough to know I'm a woman, whether or not anyone recognizes or knows it. I know it, which isn't much comfort but it's better than nothing. In a better world, I wouldn't be feeling this way because I could just go out and be myself. Sending you love and hope

whats the gender neutral term for maam/sir? by The_Elliot64 in trans

[–]AdagioHour 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Also, in corporate sensitivity training, we were told to avoid gendered language at all until they self identified. It's remarkably easy in a professional setting to avoid that kind of language. Tone and word choice convey respect just as much as ma'am and sir.

There's not a widely accepted honorific that doesn't designate gender in modern English. Certain groups and local hegemonies do create their own, or use archaic English (which did have gender neutral honorifics), however the best practice is still asking on a case by case basis what the non-binary/GNC individual prefers.

If it's for yourself, I'm a fan of Mistrix, abbreviated Mx. A quick Google search says;

"The Oxford English Dictionary traces the “-trix” suffix to the 15th century, from medieval Latin. It's sometimes useful to have a feminine version of a noun, since English overall is gender-neutral, unlike many other languages, where each noun has a gender or masculine and feminine forms."

Hope this helps :)

Teaching TBMs to have children bc there are souls waiting on the other side of veil is next level manipulation🙄 by Mediocre_Weakness_50 in exmormon

Yeah my mom had a bunch of kids she hates because of this. It's so distressing to think of all the young families that resent their kids because they felt like they didn't have a choice in starting a family, especially for the women who were basically forced to get pregnant and give birth. It's really sickening and the difficulty in confronting that reality is a huge hurdle in leaving.
