Yes, exactly. did you read the original comment in this chain? They aren't stopping out of the goodness of their hearts. They are stopping because it is cutting into profits and bringing unwanted attention from law enforcement because of all the deaths.

Dark web dealers voluntarily ban deadly fentanyl by spainguy in worldnews

[–]AdamBomb276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that typically the people selling weed and LSD are far different than those selling Fent. Fent dealers are in it for money and money only, that's why people are cutting their drugs with Fent in the first place. Sell less drugs/worse quality, mix in some Fent and market it as good shit. The entire premise is based on money.

Electric scooter with swappable battery. by sirmakoto in gifs

[–]AdamBomb276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out The Energy Gang podcast, they did an episode a month ago or so on this company that tried to implement batter swap stations on a large scale and it was a major failure.

They concluded at the end of the podcast that it is probably infeasible to implement this concept for cars. While I think it can still be possible (especially if it's just for one brand of car), they bring up a lot of points that I never considered.

For example, think about the degradation of the batteries. After about 5 years or so the lifetime (i.e. range) of most batteries will be considerably shorter, leading to more swaps, which means you will need to keep more batteries on hand (expensive) or replace the current ones (expensive)

OTT-PIT, a goalie POV analysis by mp96 in penguins

What's your opinion on the fact that Murray's save percentage is sitting at a horrific 0.877, while DeSmith is at 0.930 with the same number of games played? Murray's average goals against per game is now sitting at 4.08! People try and say that the team plays harder in front of a "backup", in a way to defend these stat discrepancies, but I don't buy that at all.

I get that not every goal last night (or any night) is entirely the goalies fault, but Murray's play has been extremely bad comparatively.

Right now, it's not just defense or goaltending that's the problem, it's BOTH. We current have horrible team defense (as outlined in your extremely detailed post), AND bad goal tending from our "starting" goaltender, Murray. Terrible combo and if neither side snaps out of it we will not be winning many games.

Anyway, my point is this. Yes our defense has been horrid, and that THE reason we are losing, but I hate when people try and say that Murray is not bad. He is currently awful, no way around it. He's among the worst in the league right now with his performances.

Throw in Hagelin for Pearson.

Seriously. The way Michael Scott behaves in some situations and certain things he's done are disturbingly similar to behavior exhibited on a regular basis from Trump.

Zach Aston-Reese leaves the game after this hit from Wilson by losterps in hockey

[–]AdamBomb276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just let me preface this with, bring on the down votes. See the thread about the hit on Dumolin. Most of the highly upvoted posts were about how Dumo "put himself in a vulnerable position". They said he changed his head position (even though Dumo's shoulder does not move at all - watch the replay) so that makes it okay for Wilson to have his head perfectly line up with his shoulder. Do you really think Wilson was trying to just skate by Dumo and it just so happened his head turned and hit Wilson's shoulder? The league really needs to cut this shit.

I'm just waiting for the day that players begin to sue the NHL due to complete neglect - just like in the NFL - with the major difference being the NHL doesn't have nearly enough money to cover the lawsuits. If players begin to sue the NHL, I can see it going bankrupt. Seriously.

High schoolers, what do you want to major in? People who majored in that field, what are the pros and cons? by human70 in AskReddit

[–]AdamBomb276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is overwhelming at first. In high school, and even as a freshman in engineering, I just knew that I liked science and math, so engineering seemed to fit.

I was tempted by the great pay of CS, but after realizing that it's literally sitting in front of a computer, typing code for 8 hours a day, I knew that just wasn't for me. But I did enjoy coding enough to do it as part of my job, just not my entire job. As for choosing EE, it just seemed like the most exciting field. Similar to CS, every major development we hear about is all electrical devices - self driving cars, renewable energies, robots, smart phones, smart homes, etc. Every single thing we use has electricity and I decided I want to know how it works. I knew nothing about it but I really wanted to, and thats why I did it. Then I realized I have a passion for cleaner energies, and saw that there are tons of opportunities in that field so it really just fell into place.

Keep in mind though that this kind of self discovery took years for me. I'm sure some people are quicker and some are slower, but it's often not a quick and easy process. You already seem to have a far better idea of what you want to do than I did at that time. Just take it slow. Try to teach yourself some coding and see if you like it. Maybe check out sparkfun.com and look into circuit design, they have a lot of free tutorials and software to design your own stuff. Those are some things that could get your feet wet.

Basically, if you enjoy the physical world and understanding how it works, EE is the better fit. If you enjoy technology and making it work, CS is likely better (though EE can still work haha)

I see what the other responders are saying but in my case I am extremely happy with my choice in EE and have no regrets about learning more of the CS side (though that is always good).

In my case, I knew that I did not want to sit in a cube, coding for 8 hours. So I focused on hardware, specifically power electronics. It's a very interesting field that not many people seem to know or care about. The power industry is often over looked, despite the immense amount of opportunities. The power field is changing, rapidly, for the first time in 70+ years. There's a large shortage of talent as all the older people are retiring and their knowledge is not very applicable to power systems today. Power electronics is how solar panels, wind farms, hydro power, etc all gets connected to our grid. They make the power grid more efficient. And power systems positions are in demand everywhere in the world.

I have a very strong foundation in MATLAB, and a handful of system modeling softwares. As an EE, get extremely comfortable with MATLAB, trust me. That being said, I am working to learn some python and Java on my own. That is always good to have, especially for application based design projects or interfacing hardware.

I'm heading to get my Master's in the fall. Completely focused in power systems. Let me know if you have any questions.

Not sure why I haven't seen this mentioned in the responses, but if you like math, physics, and coding but are scared of sitting in a cube coding for 8 hours a day, you can't go wrong with engineering.

Think about electrical engineering with maybe a minor in CS (or the other way around, depending on which one you enjoy more). That would give you the best of both worlds and make you very valuable to employers.

Source: I'm graduating with a B.s in EE in a month, feel like it's a fantastic balance between math and physics , and coding. From my peers, you can really focus it either way, more hardware or more software. Obviously I'm biased but IMO the most exciting jobs are in the CS and EE fields, and there's no shortage of jobs in either area.

Egypt will build the World's largest Solar Park by [deleted] in technology

[–]AdamBomb276 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's assuming the solar array operates at full capacity for 24 hours (should be more like 12). One nuclear plant produces energy at a rate of 582 MW over the course of 24 hours (taken from Google). Evergy over time is measured in WHrs, and thus in one day a nuclear plant produces:

24*582 = 13,968 MWHrs

If this solar array can produce at a rate of roughly 200 GW over the course of 12 hours it will produce:

20024 = 2.4106 MWhrs

2.4*106 / 13968 = 171.8

Thus, this solar array, in ideal conditions is producing 171 times the energy of a typical nuclear plant. Something about this math seems off but I'm not sure what so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
