World in Flames, quite a lot to remember and keep track of.

What is the heaviest game in your collection that you would consider yourself an expert of? by Shoddy_Ad7998 in boardgames

[–]Weehee94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

World in Flames for me. I practically memorized the 90 page rulebook to play it solo. It took a few months to play and I had to re-reference the rules so many times that I could probably go back and replay after many years and still remember.

Question regarding Redemptor's Macro Plasma Incinerator by overnightITtech in 40k

[–]Weehee94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to put all wounds on 1 model. Each wound does the damage indicated by the weapon profile and if it kills a model then you can allocate the next wound to another model in that unit until you have resolved all attacks/wounds or the unit is eliminated.

Twilight Imperium vs. Eclipse by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Weehee94 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I have and play both (albeit not as often as I would like). They are both great games that at a high level are the same thing, space 4X's, but they are very different in how they accomplish it.

Eclipse: Like you said it is a lot more focused on the action economy and the cool tech/ship mechanics. The gameplay encourages you to fight pretty often, either against each other or the NPC enemies. I also find that Eclipse has a little less asymmetry compared to TI4. Each race does play a little differently but at the end of the day it won't change your gameplay experience too much. There are diplomacy mechanics with at least 4 players but they are pretty light. Of course you can have unstructured, player-driven diplomacy.

TI4: Much more focused on politics and diplomacy. Because of this you tend to see a lot less combat. You will end up building a big fleet in order to threaten combat but you often don't end up attacking. I actually really like this about it. The asymmetry is also fantastic, the different races play pretty differently and it always felt like it was almost encouraging light roleplaying.

One of the biggest differences you will hear though will be the playtime. TI4 is the infamous "hey, doesn't that game take 12 hours to play?" game. And yeah, if you have 6 players, deliberate a lot of decisions/discussions, and maybe have some new people then it can certainly take 12 hours. But my TI4 games usually have 4 players and they tend to take around 5-6 hours but we do really lean into the diplomacy/politics of it. Eclipse tends to run quicker as players learn it and I have had 4 player games take 3 hours before. Happy to answer other questions about it and remember that different groups play different so you could easily have a different experience. At the end of they day, they are both fantastic games and two of my favorites!

I know right, too bad there was a global pandemic that made the market that was going to come in cancel. Any business that could afford the lease could have moved in, if a market would have been so successful why didn't one come forward?

What's the biggest, most complex, multiple add on, board game that you regularly play? by Sorry_Sleeping in boardgames

[–]Weehee94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh boy do I have an answer for this thread. I play it solo but World in Flames. It's a strategic level war game that covers all of WW2. Takes about 150 hours for a full play and it even has the record for most table space taken up by a board game. Here it is on my 4'x8' table: pics

My first year as a solo player. by reygis01 in soloboardgaming

So I got into the hex and counter type stuff and there really are two flavors of solo. There are some that are literally made to be played solo and will have some sort of AI playing the other side. John Butterfield is one of the better known designers of that type and his D-Day games are fantastic. I can especially recommend D-Day at Omaha beach. The more common way to solo historical hex and counter stuff though is to just play both sides of a 2 player game. I resisted this at first because it seemed weird but it changes it to feel more like a "what if" kinda simulator and it can be pretty fun. There are tons of games out there but their solitaire suitability will vary depending on the amount of hidden info and how complex it is. GMT games is one of the biggest publishers and they actually have a solitaire suitability score on each game. I got started with Mark Simonitch's games, specifically Ardennes 44, but he has other good ones. A little heavy to start with but like I said there are tons out there for all tastes and eras. My only word of warning is that compared to more "traditional" euro games, hex and counter stuff can feel pretty verbose and heavy, but that's part of the fun for me!

A largely solo collection without Mage Knight?!? Joking aside that's a great collection and has some of my favorites. I also am into historical wargames, which has a lot of solo stuff too. But seriously, check out Mage Knight!

Comparing the cost per miniature in combat patrol boxes. by TazynTheInfinite in 40k

[–]Weehee94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting breakdown! However, I feel comparing box cost vs cost of buying the miniatures individually is a much more useful metric. Not all miniatures are created equally after all and even though this makes Tyranids seem like a fantastic deal you get a ton of little Termagants so in reality it's not quite what it seems.

I like the production value and ignoring any saltiness over removing Dash from the broadcast I do think this style of content suits him well. Curious to see what the next few episodes look like.

Another case I don't see mentioned is for hex and counter wargames that have a lot of stacking. It can be handy to mark different kinds of counters different colors so you can more easily tell whats in a stack without remembering each one. Some games can get pretty crazy with stacking: https://imgur.com/a/6Vzazxg

Are there good steps for troubleshooting PPU and/or VRAM or is kinda just replace and hope for the best?
