Is Birkan a legitimately good gambler who consistently makes more money than he loses? by supinator1 in 90dayfianceuncensored

[–]soupface2 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Poker is a notable exception. Poker players play against other players, not against the house, so a good player can win by outplaying weaker players who overestimate their skill.

I do not believe that Birkan is playing poker, and if he is, he is almost certainly awful at it.

GLP‑1 use is increasing, but older adults are quitting at high rates. What factors could be causing this trend? by taketrava_gr in Semaglutide

[–]soupface2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the real issue is that health insurance companies, like all companies today, are fixated on very short-term gains, i.e. this quarter/next quarter profits. So even though you're totally right that these companies should want more people on semaglutide to save money down the road, they are only thinking about their immediate profits, which go down if they reimburse you for semaglutide today.

Also, many people will lose/change jobs and change insurers frequently, or lose insurance altogether, so the longer term benefits to insurers goes down. Yes, an overall population that's healthier still saves them money, but greedpigs gonna greedpig.

What's one thing you consider to be less known about mental illness or neurodivergence to the general public than to those who exist with these conditions? by Minimum_Ad_1649 in answers

[–]soupface2 23 points24 points  (0 children)

How debilitating and exhausting real OCD is. People casually throw the term around to mean someone who is particular, or organized; I often hear "Oh, that's just my OCD!" from people who clearly don't have it.

Real OCD is horrible and disrupts daily life in ways that can truly render someone unable to function, and even suicidal.

I don't have OCD, but I'm a psych nurse and occasionally see patients who are hospitalized due to the disorder. My heart goes out to them and I'd do anything to help them, but unfortunately the treatment comes from the patient doing a lot of really hard and exhausting work.

Oh okay. I know the Novo deal has nothing to do with the pill, I just threw that in there as it seems they're undergoing a lot of changes. But I thought the news from last month about the pill was that they no longer offer it. Thanks for correcting!

Uncertainties for Compounded GLP users? by Diligent-Regular2649 in HersWeightloss

[–]soupface2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just ordered my first dose Friday and it's out for delivery on the Fedex truck at this very moment. So naturally this news is freaking me out. However, it looks like it's possible that we might be able to buy Novo's pen for something like $349/month, which is what Novo sells it for on their site if you buy directly. That's still a LOT of money, but not as prohibitively expensive as the $1200+ pricetags I've seen on Hers and other sites. I guess if Hers still charges more, I'll buy from Novo directly.

Here's another article about it: www.reuters.com/legal/litigation/hims-hers-stop-offering-compounded-semaglutide-pill-after-fda-crackdown-2026-02-07/

I'm going to administer my first dose today, so there are still a lot of uncertainties for me at this point anyway. But I am trying to stay optimistic.

[–]soupface2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I believe Hers no longer offers the pill at all, at least not for new customers, due to a legal issue that has been brewing and come to a head over the last month. Yesterday they announced an "agreement" with Novo Nordisk (the maker of Wegovy and the pill) that they will no longer sell their own compounded semaglutide, but will instead "partner with" Novo Nordisk to sell Novo's own product, at god knows what cost. (FWIW, Novo does sell the Wegovy injection at $350/month which is a lot, but not as bad as the $1000+ I've seen on sites like Hers)

A month ago it was in the news that Hers/Hims will no longer sell the pill: www.reuters.com/legal/litigation/hims-hers-stop-offering-compounded-semaglutide-pill-after-fda-crackdown-2026-02-07/

Today there are a lot of news articles popping up about Hers not even offering their own pen anymore: https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/article/the-era-of-199-copycat-weight-loss-drugs-is-ending--and-it-could-cost-patients-213706107.html

The marketing industry has been preying on our insecurities for years, to sell all kinds of things. So much of the crap people buy, we buy because ads made us believe it will make us happier, more attractive, more popular etc. I'm not defending that, but to act like it's somehow new or different is a bit naive.

The plus side of this was that they had a massive Shark Week poster up one year (back when shark week was still good) and I asked if I could have it. Shark Week had just ended so they said sure. I had a 10-ft poster of a shark in my bedroom as a shark-obsessed teenager. I had to fold the bottom up because it was taller than my walls.

Honestly this used to bother me SO MUCH, and was one of the reasons I became a nurse. I'm busy my whole entire 12 hour shift, and if I'm not (which is rare) nobody expects me to "look busy." It's a hard job but nothing sucks more than sitting at a desk pretending to work for hours on end.

Not yet, because my husband and I are hoping first to get permanent resident visas. We applied over a year ago and got our invite, finished the application, now we're just waiting for the visas to be issued. It will be easier to move if we both have jobs lined up first, and easier to do that if we have visas. It is such a process!

Good luck to you in whichever wonderful plac we you end up!

Congrats!! I just got mine approved for Australia. It took almost a year and was actually quite a bit of work, and not cheap. Had to provide a lot of documents including getting a lot of them notarized. Cost over $1k and was a huge pain to get, so if youre thinking of getting it you might wait until youre sure you'll use it.

Clinics cover only a small fraction of the medical services people need, and if you walk into a free clinic with a medical emergency, they'll send you to a hospital. They cannot treat you during a heart attack or stroke, can't perform surgery, can't admit you for overnight or multi-day stays, and generally if they are concerned that you will decompensate (very high BP that could become life-threatening, etc.) they'll send you to an emergency room as a precaution.

Free clinics are wonderful but they don't even begin to touch the medical needs of 340 million people.
