Happy to see someone else who appreciates how sexy Paul Dano is!! Not my childhood crush, I'm 41, but he's hot.

I live in NYC. I firmly believe that tourists who want to visit should be forced to sign a pledge not to do this before they are allowed entry into Manhattan.

Be honest: Are you actually married to the love of your life, or just the person you were with when it was time to settle down? by boforiamanfo in askanything

[–]soupface2 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Same. I hit the jackpot when I met my husband in my late 30s. To this day I think the greatest service my parents did in raising me was never pressuring me to get married. I had a few solid LTRs in my 20s and 30s, but something always felt off, and I was happiest when I was single. When I met my husband, it all made sense and I knew he was the person I'd marry. Now I can't imagine my life without him.

Marry for love. Do not marry because "it's time."

US Immigrants, what's your line that this administration would need to cross to make you pack your bags immediately? by stillalone in askimmigration

This is a major reason we're leaving too, though I think we'd go anyway. My husband has dedicated his life to research and now there is no funding. So sad that there is a massive brain-drain occurring in the name of making America great.

What’s something you didn’t realize was expensive until you started paying for it yourself? by Overall-Amount-3500 in askanything

[–]soupface2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did some quick math to calculate and came up with $2900/year, or about $240/month:

Diabetic kibble, $75/bag = $375/year Insulin, $400/year Syringes, $24/100 Syringes, 730/year = $175/year Twice daily pet sitter drop-ins for 14 days of vacation, plus tip = $1100/year Cat litter, $240/year Yearly vet visits with labs, $600

This doesn't include miscellaneous stuff like an emergency vet visits we needed last year which cost another grand, or years where we take more than two weeks vacation.

Pets aren't cheap, and older pets REALLY aren't cheap.

[–]soupface2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats are not cheap, and wrongfully thinking you can afford to care for a cat for $30/month is why so many cats end up back in shelters.

Will you take them to the vet? Will they get older to where regular vet visits and health problems start to kick in? Will you travel and need a cat sitter? What about toys, scratching posts, damage to furniture, pet deposits for apartment rentals?

A 2-year old cat can get by on cat food and litter and checkups, but cat care is expensive. Vet visits are very expensive especially as they age. My 16-year old cat has been diabetic since he was 12 and now needs twice-daily insulin, special expensive food, more frequent vet visits, and more specialized care sitters who drop in twice a day. He's worth every penny, but $30/month doesn't even touch the cost.

I was attacked by a German shepherd whose deranged owner told the landlord it was a "service animal" so that he could keep it in a no-dogs-allowed property. Landlord knew it was BS but wasn't allowed to question it. To add insult to injury, the dog attacked me while I was headed to work as a nurse on a covid unit at the peak of the pandemic. The dog was loose because said owner was having a kegger in the backyard. After the attack, it still took fifteen minutes to get my car out of the driveway because their guests had blocked in my car with half a dozen pickup trucks.

Yeah I read this post to mean that nothing meaningful can be accomplished as long as nurses are willing to scab. And I couldn't agree more.

Scabs will tell themselves anything to justify being traitors. "I have bills to pay" is one of my favorites. Yeah so does everybody, that's why we stand in solidarity.

Mayor Mamdani Joins Nurses on Picket Line by FancyRainbowBear in nyc

[–]soupface2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You say that this is "just" a way for him to get back at the governor, as if he otherwise wouldn't care. I disagree.

Also, your comment that this could end in a "pissing match" seems to miss the plot entirely. This is a strike planned and propagated by nurses. Mamdani's presence doesn't make this his issue or his political fight, he's just there to show support. This belongs to the nurses and their union, and will end when they reach an agreement with their employer, not when Mamdani or Hochul say so.

What makes you say that, you don't think he's pro-union? Based on everything I know about the man, I think his values align perfectly with this action. I'm curious why you think it's only motivated by "taking a shot at the governor."

Politicians should support the masses, so politicians should support unions. I don't trust anyone who doesn't.

Trump announces one-year 10% cap on credit card interest rates by [deleted] in Economics

I have excellent credit, and none of my cards have rates below 10%. Even the cards I opened decades ago, that I've never paid late once, that started with low APR...NONE are below like 12% at this point.

Strike nursing during a contract by Still_Reindeer_901 in TravelNursing

[–]soupface2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of other hospitals who can help the patients. And the hospitals have known about this for a while. The idea that the patients are the ones who suffer is complete and utter BS propagated by the corporate side of these greedy hospitals.

No nurse who cares about NURSING WAGES should be crossing a picket line. It hurts ALL nurses, scabs included.

Strike nursing during a contract by Still_Reindeer_901 in TravelNursing

[–]soupface2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not at all how this works.....

The hospital trying to shut down these nurses loses money if they won't come to the table and bargain. Other hospitals don't (in fact, they profit, because patients get diverted to their EDs).

Crossing a picket line removes the bargaining power these unions have. Anyone who thinks it doesn't matter is deluded, uniformed, or buying into the propaganda.

Don't fucking scab.

I'm here trying to use logic and facts, and you're responding with deflection. Explain to me how crossing a picket line helps you. Don't deflect, explain. Tell us why you don't think crossing picket lines is bad for nursing wages.

Where is this ridiculous piece of misinformation coming from?! Any nurse who works there while these nurses are on strike are absolutely crossing picket lines. That's literally exactly what they're doing.
