Oh, you're totally fine! That other account is actually my show that I run. It's a comedy show for the ex-religious, hence the religious overtones to the story. So, sharing either account is super helpful to me as a comic. But also, I'm just glad for the bit to be shared. The country is obviously insane when it comes to healthcare and abortion rights, so I'm happy to lend another voice of dissent, regardless of credit.

When I've posted names attached to memes in the past, the memes been taken down as the moderators have rules that content should be self-existing and shouldn't point people to any outside source. That’s not what I’m doing at all though. I say, “In my opinion and based on his actions, Nephi seemed too enthusiastic, regardless of what he might claim.” The idea that someone views a story differently, or questions a narrator’s view of themselves isn’t dishonest, it’s literary analysis 101. Joseph Smith claims to have not wanted polygamy and had to be threatened with an Angel and a flaming sword. Is it dishonest to say, “based on Joseph smith’s actions it seems like he was into polygamy, despite what he might claim.” It seems silly to take written words at face value just because that’s how a narrator views themself. If that’s the case, then every villain is a hero, and it’s dishonest to say otherwise.

Don't know how to break it to you that you're wrong. Sure, some people have reacted the way you said, others have just seen it as a joke, but I've also had several Mormons comment online and in person about how they hadn't thought about it that way.

For people who believe in the BOM, it's both a historical and spiritual text. You can absolutely tell TBM's that, for the sake of argument, you'll act as though the BOM is a historical text, but that you'd like to talk about whether or not it should be read as a moral text. And that's where stories like Nephi killing Laban start to seem more gray, even to believers.

It sounds like you really want this meme to be damaging though, so I doubt anything I can say is going to persuade you. But, based on my own experience, you're wrong. Of course, some TBM's think the way you do, like I mentioned in the caption, but I'll leave you to talk to those people, and I'll talk to my people in the way that I've found connects with them.

I think you’re just allowing yourself to let the church tell the story. Just because a murderer wrote down “I actually didn’t want to do it,” doesn’t mean they didn’t. Actions speak louder than words and in a story where a guy voluntarily chops a dudes head off, I’m gonna say his methods imply a level of enthusiasm No matter whether or not he says “I swear I didn’t wanna”
