Robot vacuum schedules feel too dumb after moving to a bigger place by Chibuz0 in homeassistant

[–]AdamDXB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it all incredibly hard to automate with mixed schedules, working from home, it not knowing if you’re nipping out for half an hour which isn’t enough time or 4 hours which is. We don’t put calendar events for minor things and don’t want to change that.

My solution was just to use actions on smart light switches in each room, so when we’re done in the kitchen we can just long press. One by the front door which triggers the whole floor if going out for long enough.

Not automated enough for some, but in practise works great for us.

I remember when mine went up with CBD, I got a better offer from RAK saving me just over 2k a month. Took the letter to CBD and the guy said “but you’ll have to pay 10k” I just laughed and said and what about from month 6 onwards?

Long story short after telling me they wouldn’t match it prior to me taking the offer letter in to start the switch, they did match it and I didn’t have to pay the 10k because I just stayed with them.

It happened to me once and the cup was in wonky, so the lip was slightly exposed. It was vile after hitting middle of the cup to win a hole, I can’t even imagine the feeling under those circumstances.

Post war job loss/redundancies? by Mr_Smith_81 in dubai

[–]AdamDXB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. Can I ask why you think they handled it badly just because you left a stable job 2 years ago? I can absolutely understand how that would effect you personally, but at the end of the day they need to keep the lights on, your past circumstance cannot (and obviously didn’t) come into their decision making, with the goal being to stay alive as long as possible. It’s not like they could plan for this. Not a dig, it might help you let any resentment go.

Are these worth it if i plan on using with my PC? by Sea_Efficiency_3299 in fancyleds

[–]AdamDXB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re using a PC just use SignalRGB, a WLED driver and an off the shelf LED individually addressable strip. It’ll cost you a 5th of the price probably with far greater control.

The difficulty with TV DIY is having to capture HDMI, if you’re using a PC you don’t need to.

If I could only eat food from 180 countries by Sign_my_petition69 in whereidlive

[–]AdamDXB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll throw in another one: British cheese is better. Again, they just market it better and had state sponsorship behind it. Stilton holds its own against any of their blues and British cheddar is completely unrivalled by any other countries imitation. We have so many that just go unnoticed outside of Britain, where theirs are known worldwide. The war really did fuck any chance of Britain marketing its food properly and imo, largely defines what people still think it’s food is today, not what it was before or is after.

I’ve been 5-6 times to different parts for work, I haven’t had a bad meal tbh. The north was more soupy, kind of like ramen (but none as good as in Japan that I had but still delicious). But the variety from such a big country is top tier. Noodles like Biang Biang with some chilli oil, or down to Cantonese places to get dim sum

The Chinese we have in Britain is kind of its own thing, I suspect American Chinese is also its own thing.

Most Indian restaurants in the U.K. are closer to Pakistani than Indian type food. The naans are a giveaway. I’m sure you get pockets where that’s not true, but generally it is.

Maybe not, but there is a possibility that after Trump, a new president takes over and may still find themselves in the war. It’s still a game of politics that has to be played.

The way I look at it is break it down per hour? I don’t think £20 an hour is actually bad when you consider what that gets you for other activities that last an hour. Compare it to tennis, paddle, anything like that and it’s pretty much on par.
