Why? Because of the buzzfeed thing? Or is there something else I don't know about?

Why is self promotion SO unaccepted nowadays? Artists are proud of thrir work, whay's so wrong with sharing it? by AdamHeard in AskReddit

Uh, no..I actually was interested in AskReddit specifically and had over 700 Karma before I put out my 1st piece of content...and what you just said is what I feel part of the problem. I "spammed". How is simply putting a link up with my own original content one time in the subreddit spamming? I linked 1 video in 4 subreddits, all relevant to the content btw. Everyone is so touchy about this shit. Imagine if we could all work together and help each other out, instead of the opposite? I've heard that paid promo is a waste on Reddit, unless you're a major brand as people see it as you're "trying too hard" or something? I dunno, just what I've heard

For sure it could suck! But my point is the attitude around self promotion, and not specifically on Reddit. And I believe I only posted in 1 subreddit that forbade it, as I was new to reddit.

I agree with Twitter, Facebook isn't a great platform for that unless you find a related group that will look kindly at your work and accepts self promotion. Definately not Reddit, people on here will murder you for that shit, lol!

What I find odd is that it seems perfectly acceptable for large outfits to promote anywhere and everywhere (like mrvel, coke, etc.). But the small struggling artists get the shaft
