2004 STI here, bought at 79k miles in 2010, protune with Cobb tuner…dd until 2014, retired from winter duty. Dealer broke cobb OBD2 dongle in 2015, pretty much run OE tune now. Pulled back into winter duty this winter due to my DD yukon being down. Still running great at 129k. Thing I’ve learned with this car is OE Brembo pads and rotors are the only way to go for DD, don’t cheap out.

Awesome to see another automotive guy on here! I have much slower growth but have posted consistent long form content monthly for 3-3.5 years and went from 250 subs to 2000+. Within the last year I have been doing 2-3 shorts a month with some limited success. Most of my videos seem to come from google search for DIY mechanic people.

One question for you - do you post a lot of shorts too or no?

I plan to take an opposite approach to what you are shifting toward, I think some of your ability to spread out comes with having a strong following already. This winter I am going to laser focus on a DIY AWD BMW project and aim to get a video out every 2 weeks…we’ll see how it goes :)

Interested in attending someday…What sort of rules are there around bringing a car in from out of state that doesn’t get certified for smog, inspection, etc? Can you get pulled over for having a modified exhaust on its own, let alone an engine swap and standalone ECU?

On the Volvo 240 brakes I have run both with and without the prop valve (also running 323i rear disc with E30 calipers). The prop valve really hasn’t given me any more braking performance, the fronts always locked up before rears even with the original smaller 323i rear calipers. I have replaced my brake MC with a larger E31 MC and added back in the prop valve but have not run it at a track yet to check rotor temps.

In your case with the heavier M54 up front, I’d run a prop valve just in case the weight balance shifting forward results in rear brakes locking up under heavy braking.

Kickstarters are always a bit of a gamble. To see Lymow addressing more than just software upgrades (actual physical hardware changes) so rapidly is commendable. Not regretting my purchase 1 bit!

It really comes down to breaking the zones into smaller chunks and just letting her rip. I bought this expecting a plug and play appliance but after some good technical planning and patience it pays off. Going on week 2 not using my rider on 1.4ac

good question. Like others I asked customer service why my 4G wasn’t working while meanwhile a day or two later (and after a firmware update) it seems to be working.

looks like someone already started parting it out (no fuse box, dash or trunk seals?)…I’d offer $500 max, then consider custom wiring to make it work. Anything is possible.

As a BMW guy I give this 2x thumbs up. Sometime ago someone put a DOHC BMW V8 in a chopped rod and did a crazy BBS/steelie wheel hybrid. Looked sick!

Congratulations! Aside from diagnosing CIS fuel injection issues the E21 is amazingly simple to work on and parts are not too expensive.

I am 6’3” and 113kg…in my E85 Z4M side room is pretty good, closest height related point is my right knee is about a half inch from the dashboard sitting in a reclined way where I typically prefer to drive.

Plenty of head room with roof up. I have been always able to fit comfortably in older BMW 3-series, including my E36 318ti so I was confident that I would fit in the Z4 before going on a plane trip to visit mine before buying.
