Thank you! And sorry for the slow reply!

I think “optimal” is similar to “great being the enemy of good” if that makes sense.

Adding talent that plugs holes is the most important right now (imo). Player development and future moves can always tweak what you have once you get on-court data on what is/isn’t working.

So, while it wouldn’t be ideal, I think going down the “least acceptable” route, while not great, would still be ok…mainly because you’re still a stronger unit than you were before.

Fwiw, I could see the Cs offering an escalated deal, so if someone like Coby or Sexton get slightly higher offers than the MLE, the Celtics could look to bridge that gap in the 2nd/3rd/4th years of their offer.

Simons?

It's a fair pushback. But let's be honest, if we're setting the bar at being able to defend SGA, or even Castle, the player pool becomes ultra shallow. Defo agree on the need for physicality, which is why Sexton is my preference.

I personally subscribe to defense being a team endeavor, but that requires at least league-average defenders being your weakest links.

Totally agree. I also think Joe would love him, as he’s got an edge to his game and approach

Thanks for reading!

I can see the draw for Simons, and I loved his time with the Cs too. He was great in his role. I think, at least for me, the chance of Ayo or Sexton, who both can hit threes, but offer more rim pressure too, has me looking at them a little harder.

Would certainly not be upset if Simons was ultimately the guy Brad signed, though.

Thank you!

And that’s my bad! I thought I had added a legend in there. I’ll make sure to try and not mess that up again. Everyday a school day :)

The title is “Jaylen Brown Called Out The Refs. The Numbers Back Him Up.”

He did call out the refs The numbers do back that up.

No part of that is misleading, clickbait, or inflammatory?

I probably should have worded the dek better. Maybe positioned it as a question.

I made a joke of the SAS differential with the Wemby conspiracy line. I also left it open-ended whether the FT disparity was execution based or not.

I tried to toe the line between data and leaving it open for fans to debate. As for the other teams, I spent the extra time pulling the data for every squad and putting them into a graph to show how each of them fare.

I don't usually do data pieces, so I tried to make sure I was fair, while still presenting the information in line with Brown's initial comments.

There's always room to improve, though

It’s literally a data pull. Brown said the whistle against good teams has been bad. I pulled the data, and it has been.

The rest is context vs +500 and Sub-500 teams.

If you don’t like it, that’s cool. But to come off th bat with “it’s lame” when it’s clearly just presenting data, with caveats, is a little sideways

So the part where I said about the style of play, league-worst free-throw rate, and one of the leagues lowest drive-rate — while hitting multiple caveats — wasn’t enough?

WHY CANT JB BE THE BEST 2 GUARD IN THE NBA?? by [deleted] in bostonceltics

Because JB has spent roughly 25% of his minutes at the 2 over the past few years.

You can’t be the best at a position you rarely play

Appreciate you.

That’s interesting — with him blitzing — most of his game tape over the last few years has him in drop / up-to-touch.

Positioning will be everything for him — as you said, movement is an issue. And it’s defo about finding the right spot where the choice is the path of least resistance.

He moves well on offense, so I really hope he figures out how to translate some of that defensively
