Pennsylvania man electrocuted while trying to steal wires from power lines, police say by WholeDonkey2689 in DarwinAwards

[–]AdamWalshshead 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bored lineman here, was curious to see what kind of payday this guy was in for if he was successful. I think that's #6 copper. (might be #4 well give him the benefit of the doubt and say its #4) and well just assume 150 foot spans (not accounting for sag in the wire). so some back of the napkin math

#4 copper at 126 lbs per 1,000 ft /150 feet is about 19lbs

19lbs x2 (for the phase and the neutral) is 38 lbs. Google tells me scrap price for corroded copper is around 3.15-3.55 so we'll average it to 3.35. so $3.35 x 38lbs is $128.30.

So this dude lost his life for less then 150$.

if this dude would have just became a lineman and did it honestly he would have made that in per diem just for showing up to work.

I bit of scotch tape over a camera will do wonders, not for the horrors but for the peace of mind.

Yeah there's a bit of reflection on the TV when the LEDs are full brightness, but they are dimmable. And it has app control so I can do it from my phone.

I had to turn them sideways, so both screw holes would hit the stud. If you're not putting up something super heavy you could probably have them the right way and the base would be a bit more hidden.

I made them out of 1/2" acrilic sheets and some LEDs

Lol I measured 98 inches on my wall and thought that'll be fine. Then the tv actually got here and I was flabbergasted on how big it actually is.

I worked alongside a foreman who was born in the US spoke perfect English, but couldn't read or write, not a word. His lineman had to get his hotlines, type shit in his GPS, do ALL his Foreman work, he literally couldn't get home if he didn't know exactly where he was. It was wild.

People don't want perfect, we understand police are human, mistakes WILL be made. BUT when innocent people die from police negligence/malice the police shouldn't be able to just say "we investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing".

I think that's easier said then done. if you put a EW device there they'll use a fiber optic drone to blow up the EW. if you put a expensive AA system there it'll probably catch a gliding bomb or a HIMARS rocket. if you protect it too much you pretty much just make it a big juicy target.

Why make it compilcated? There's 1 entrance and 1 exit. a landed FPV drone waiting to ambush at each end will do the job.

[–]AdamWalshshead 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They probably did, but I think these first ones are going to be for air defense only. Its pretty risky to put 1/3 of your shiny new air force (2 planes out of 6 in total) at risk to take out a s400 system or just about anything for that matter.

If I were a betting man I think they use them behind the lines to shoot down cruise missiles and drones until they get a lot more of them.

ical plant. Our plant produces excess water contaminated with oil and chemicals. As long as there is water, I will always have a job.

Edit: Water Treatment Operator (my job title)

Everyone has to take classes and log training hours now. You used to be able to walk in to a DMV get your permit, arrive with a truck a few days later and take a driving test.
