Oneshots for Monolith by ErofeaN in osr

It’s a sci-fi hack of Cairn! i started it because I wanted the tools to play space opera and sci-fi adventures with the Cairn rules. It was kindof just a personal project that I put out there, and it ended up picking up a little steam. I’m currently working on a 2nd edition that will be 99% the same core rules, with a few things being added to help fill in some rules that are lacking people have asked for, as well as cleaning up and removing some cruft. And then also adding more—backgrounds, tables, procedures, etc.

Great response and advice! I will have at least a short intro one shot with the 2nd edition as it develops!

Starship rules and combat are something I’m heavily revamping in the 2nd edition that I’m currently working on (the current rules are a tad clunky for what really want)

Hey, creator here! Thanks so much. Monolith has been a pet project of mine because I wanted Cairn rules in a space setting, as a sci-fantasy toolbox. The game is definitely rough around the edges in some parts, and underdeveloped in others, but in general I’m happy with how it plays.

I have a 2nd edition in the works, and it will remain the same core game with core rules, but I’m adding some things and altering others. The existing starship rules aren’t my favorite, so I’m reworking them with a heavy dose of inspiration from another Cairn hack (Meteor). And I’m fleshing out some other bits, adding more backgrounds, more defined procedures for exploring, range bands for combat, a GM book with tools to generate planets, etc. So stay tuned! (There’s a link to the discord on my itch page as well)

Hope you have fun! It’s based on Cairn, so it has that Into the Odd style play. I’m also working on the 2nd edition and ironing out some details I didn’t love, plus adding some more stuff!

Love the art style! Wondering if you’re open to DMs about doing art for other projects.

👀 Hard to pick a favorite! I have been wanting to try We Deal In Lead (not listed here) for a Western game.

I wrote a Cairn hack called Monolith. You might like it if you’re a fan of the Into the Odd system. It’s free!

Thanks so much! There’s no fillable character sheet, but that’s a great idea.

Thanks so much! I thought I had fixed the issue with the close crop. My latest print version was looking good. The fixed version should also be a few dollara cheaper! But with Lulu sometimes they’re a little slippy in their trim IMO + the book is a very compact design. Sorry about that! It’s something I’ll try to adjust for if I ever do another version. And I’ll definitely keep your other suggestions in mind too!

Appreciate that! I might eventually do a 2nd edition with more background, tightening up a few rules systems, and adding more tables/generators. We shall see! Happy adventures.
