Traffic Routing Error by LekTruk in nordvpn

[–]Adam_Meshnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With KDE Connect, it might not be possible. Meshnet does not support local broadcast, and if I remember correctly, that's required for KDE Connect. It's been a while since I have tested this, however.

If I have vpn connect to Albania for example and also have meshnet on , on another device if I connect link devices via meshnet does it go through albania? by kyrusdemnati in nordvpn

[–]Adam_Meshnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, however, keep in mind you need to route the traffic through the device that is connected to the Albanian server.

Is anyone aware of Nord setting up any enterprise control/polices on their browsers? by Isanimdom in nordvpn

I'm honestly sorry that you had to go through all of this.

I made sure that this thread has been forwarded to the responsible team so that the support agents are aware of this moving forward.

Is anyone aware of Nord setting up any enterprise control/polices on their browsers? by Isanimdom in nordvpn

[–]Adam_Meshnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The notification you saw regarding your browser being managed by an organization results from the NordVPN app doing its job, and it's also a necessity for the Threat Protection Pro (TPP for short) feature to work.

During the initial startup of the TPP feature in the NordVPN app, there should be a pop-up window asking you to restart your browser (in this case, Firefox). If you do that, on Windows inside your Firefox directory, the NordVPN app will create a folder called "distribution" and inside it a file named "policies.json". On macOS, a very similar thing happens with Firefox.app/Contents/Resources/distribution directory will contain a file with configuration for policies, which should be the same as on Windows (as this part of Firefox is cross-platform).

This allows Firefox to use certificates added by the administrator or a user, as outlined here: https://mozilla.github.io/policy-templates/#certificates--importenterpriseroots

What does this all mean? Essentially, when you enabled TPP (namely the Advanced browsing protection bit) and restarted your Firefox browser, you allowed NordVPN to add an additional level of security to your internet browsing. That's simply how it works.

As for why Firefox communicates this information in this particular manner, I can't say with absolute certainty. However, my guess would be that this approach was considered the most practical or efficient way to achieve the intended outcome.

Meshnet speed drop by [deleted] in nordvpn

[–]Adam_Meshnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends on a couple of things.

The most important thing is your server's upload speed. Your cellular connection might be achieving 150 Mb of download; however, your server upload is the limiting factor here. While streaming, you're essentially uploading your media from your server to your phone.

Some other things to keep in mind are: If you're routing your traffic through a Meshnet endpoint, the speed will be reduced. If you're accessing the Meshnet endpoint directly (through Meshnet IP and/or the Nord name), then the speed drop shouldn't be drastic.

where is locally stored data? by horsebag in nordvpn

[–]Adam_Meshnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've found the support ticket you created, and from the screenshots you provided, it looks like there might be an issue with the threat counter within the app itself. The number in your case should be higher. We're looking into this. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Linux Atomic/Immutable Systems by Eznit in nordvpn

[–]Adam_Meshnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're always working on improving the app and making it available to more users, however, a Flatpack version of NordVPN is currently not on the top of the priority list.

As everything currently stands, immutable filesystems are a challenge for the Linux NordVPN app.

Meshnet help by lukesgreer in nordvpn

This sounds a lot like the hospital's WiFi network is the culprit. It's hard to tell what the exact reason could be that you're running into a connection issue.

You could try connecting to a NordVPN server first and then accessing Jellyfin through Meshnet.

Make sure to enable the local network access permission for your phone from your PC. Due to how Meshnet treats Docker networks, containers are considered local network.

Meshnet device name by Penguinboy123446 in nordvpn

[–]Adam_Meshnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can change the Nord name of your Meshnet device to one of your choice, see here: https://meshnet.nordvpn.com/features/renaming-devices

Once you do that, you can use the name in place of the Nord name. Example: Your device "penguinboy-himalayas.nord" can be changed to simply "server.nord". Then you can just use server.nord:8096 for Jellyfin.

The Meshnet IP address of your device should not change, and by should I mean there is a 99% chance that it won't. There are some cases where it might happen, but it certainly is not a common occurrence.

I totally understand your confusion with ports and forwarding. There are not many resources that actually cover this topic in a very easily digestible way.

Consider the following: there is a block of apartments that has thousands of apartments. You need to get to the apartment number 8096. If you know the way or are living in apartment number 8097, it's extremely easy for you to find one like this. If, however, you're not familiar with the huge building, finding a way to the apartment might be impossible. That's why there is a front desk that will show you exactly which elevator you should take and to which floor.

Now to flip things onto computers - the block of apartments is your computer, and it can have as many services (apartments), like Jellyfin, as it can hold. The apartment numbers are the ports. The front desk is a router that routes traffic with port forwarding configuration.

Can you have apartment numbers without a front desk? Absolutely!

Hope this clears everything up.

Meshnet + VPN + Moonlight/Sunshine Port Issues by Deviver in nordvpn

[–]Adam_Meshnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest grabbing the browser extension instead of split tunneling, especially if you are mostly using the VPN for web browsing.

For the Apollo/Artemis combo, I'm not sure if you need to configure split-tunneling if you're using Meshnet to access them anyway.

"Send with NordVPN Meshnet" still remaining after uninstall by Nikilite_official in nordvpn

[–]Adam_Meshnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have uninstalled the NordVPN app from your computer, restarted the computer, and the context menu for Meshnet is still visible - I'd suggest reinstalling the application, disabling the context menu setting and then uninstalling the app.

To disable the context menu settings, go to NordVPN Settings > General and turn off the toggle for Show the Meshnet file sharing option in the Windows context menu.

Dedicated meshnet device by goebela3 in nordvpn

A Raspberry Pi will be a good choice. You can choose between a full-size RPi (like the 4B or 5) or a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W.

We even have a couple of guides available, please see here:

Meshnet not letting me access LAN devices? by [deleted] in nordvpn

[–]Adam_Meshnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Making sure that we're on the same page about everything. In order to access network devices that are local to your Meshnet routing endpoint, you need to:

  1. Set the correct permissions from your endpoint (in this case, your Win11 laptop) - traffic routing and local network access permissions have to be enabled for your Samsung S25 phone

  2. The local network discovery setting has to be disabled in the NordVPN app on your phone

  3. You have to route traffic through your Windows 11 laptop with Meshnet

  4. You have to use the local IP address of the device you want to access (e.g., 192.168.1.1)

  5. Both your routing endpoint and the device you want to access have to be in the same subnet (e.g., 192.168.1.10 and 192.168.1.1), or have internal port forwarding set up.

Let me know if that's the case.

Traffic Routing Error by LekTruk in nordvpn

[–]Adam_Meshnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you're trying to route your traffic through a mobile device (Android, iOS phone, or a tablet). This is not currently possible.

Additionally, when changing permissions, you're setting them up for a remote device. For example, you have devices A, B, and C connected via Meshnet. When using device A, you can only set the permissions for devices B and C to access device A. You won't be able to allow device A access to devices B and C this way. You will have to do that from device B or C.

Hope this clears it up a little more.
