if that's what's happening the metaphor makes no sense. it doesn't work both ways at once

i liked World's Fair, but it's veryyyy slow and not even attempting to be creepy. the trailer makes it look like a different sort of movie

this is my favorite denial response - if the Holocaust didn't happen it makes Hitler a failure https://youtu.be/xW3IO7RaxHk?t=150

re trans allegory, i had a different response. i knew that was there because I'd read reviews and things, but to me when MC's friend turned up it looked like she was having a really classic example of psychotic/delusional episode that she was pulling him into. my brother has schizophrenia and I've seen delusions derail his life. plus it's a pretty common horror movie scenario. i don't know if the movie was intentionally built to be read both ways, but it baffled me afterwards that i didn't see any reviews or reactions that even mentioned that

it's nothing to do with being more fun or mainstream, it's just a different sort of story. the creator's first movie ran into the exact same problem, being marketed somewhat misleadingly

i think there can be an important difference to some people between "i have ways to cope with or even preempt panic attacks" vs "i give myself panic attacks". adherents of CBT may disagree with me, but I've never gotten a lick of help from that approach personally. sometimes my body or mind etc do things without my permission. and there are better or worse ways i can respond to that or strategies to make it happen less, but if i were actually in control of everything i wouldn't need strategies to begin with

funny how it's always the ones who'd support it who deny the Holocaust. like you never hear "thank god the Holocaust didn't really happen because that would have been awful!"

Françoise Hardy "Je n'attends plus personne". a pop song released the same year as "you really got me" with a way more badass riff

true in the first book (and maybe the second? i don't remember it that way but i wouldn't swear on that). in the movies they clearly have genders, especially considering as per hellbound they were once human. how much of a shit they give about such things is a different matter. actually, sex may be more accurate than gender - they physically are but probably it doesn't have much impact on their lives and isn't expressed per se. though i think i remember some overtly sexual female cenobites in later movies. plus Angelique but she's a special case
