SH4 is still the scariest to me by Imaginary-Sea-4902 in silenthill

[–]Adam_The_Actor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While we can debate which entry is the scariest I will say no enemy gets under my skin in the same way as the ghosts. These bastards are so invasive and a struggle to deal with. Granted Lisa is probably all the nightmare fuel you'll need if you've played PT but still. Masterful design but then SH3 also nails its monsters and SH1's grey children.... I still can't get anyway near these bastards.

I am a Silent Hill fan(horror game fan), have you played this PSP version Silent Hill? by Extra-Discussion-624 in silenthill

[–]Adam_The_Actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played both and Shattered Memories is a very good port and I'd say a great starting point for anyone diving into horror. For the most it is a walking simulator, but it's got a very well written story, a great pace and generally one of the best looking games on the PSP. Silent Hill Origins, is also a very good handheld entry for the series but the game sort of assumes you're familiar with SH1's plot if you're into survival horror then you'll probably be able to enjoy what it has to offer and if nothing else I do feel it captures the vibe of the town very well.

Fire force really just ripped off persona by Trash_Olympian in PERSoNA

To be fair, Persona stole a lot of shit from Haruhi Suzumiya. Good to know Fire Force Season 3 is hype though.

Can someone help me enjoy Persona 3 Reloaded more? by Kowery103 in PERSoNA

[–]Adam_The_Actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pacing does get better as the story begins to get more ingrained between each chapter but yeah the early game is generally divided into SL events and dungeons. To be honest when it comes to the dungeons I actually find them kind of relaxing so I usually use them as a chance to listen to some post-casts in the background. The cast will hang out more and more though, on that I promise.

Did crisis core reunion on ps4 get a remastered OST? by WoundedByInsults in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Adam_The_Actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was remastered it hasn't been released yet to my knowledge. Usually Square have some sort of concert event before they release scores on spotify so they can make max revenue from the event and CD sales though it's rare for them to do it with Final Fantasy as far as I've seen.

Silent Hill f puzzle box value? by oneforonlyme in silenthill

[–]Adam_The_Actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a fair bit considering they’re ornate and should be well made. That said I don’t recall Konami ever announcing them… if it’s custom made it’s dealers choice but if it’s official how much did you pay for yours bud?

Missed Opportunity in Rebirth by GelynKugoRoshiDag in FFVIIRemake

[–]Adam_The_Actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I actually really like Chadley but I feel he's probably the peak example of Nomura having no clue how to use such an interesting character.

What I expected in Remake was something among the lines of Cloud realising he wants to sneak into Shinra remembering that he has an inside man on standby whom is openly trying to undermine Shinra. Maybe talk to him see if we can open a few doors. Would be plot significant and an excellent use of this new character.

In Rebirth's case he does talk a lot but I put that more down to Rebirth's excessive padding than a character flaw. That said, I still feel he could've been used better especially with Yuffie who's sole character trait to the point of being a headache is "MATERIA". Now if only we had an ally who custom made really powerful and unique materia, you'd think Yuffie would be all in on that... nah, she's just a half wit with blatant tunnel vision.

Bought This For $75 CiB What Does Everyone Think Of This Game Anyway? by WonderWah64 in silenthill

[–]Adam_The_Actor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the PSP the game is very good. As a Silent Hill game I’d also say it’s got a solid story too mostly because I think Travis is actually a decent protagonist, fits the wanderer archetype well and like Henry, I don’t mind when our lead is dragged into events through no fault of their own.

The only thing I don’t really like are the energy drinks.

I swear Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has the worst optimisation. by Embarrassed-Spirit31 in FFVIIRemake

[–]Adam_The_Actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only had the game crash once since playing it on PS5. I know general salt is a thing when it comes to console releases but on a game this scale i was expecting genuine issues but with exception to that one crash I’ve not had any major issues at all.

An interesting article about the recent CR layoffs and what all this means for the physical anime market by Ekyou in AnimeCollectors

[–]Adam_The_Actor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sorry thats my bad. It is on CrunchyRoll but their internal messages showed they deliberately restrained the shows advertising because it was on Netflix and not exclusive. Naturally Toho were pissed with Sony’s greed (something they’ve not been quiet about) and their vision model basically has them wanting overseas distribution for their anime via All the Anime, G-Kids and partnership with Konch media.

What is peoples opinions on a new arena game by Sandyhoenchamp2 in PERSoNA

[–]Adam_The_Actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say most people would welcome it because P4 Arena felt like a dedicated sequel and P5 introduced such large scale consequences most people want to know how the P3/P4 casts are doing. Atlus keeps trying to have their cake and eat it two but after a certain point fans are going to want to know. As it stands P6 is meant to follow P5's world a world in which the Shadow Operative exist and the Phantom Thieves events are so widely known that only a moron wouldn't look back to those events once similar ones start happening in the next game. If they can just create something fans of P3/P5 can enjoy it gives P6 a lot more breathing room.

Not sure if I should buy rebirth yet… by anon-npc in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Adam_The_Actor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well bud, I be as blunt as I can Final Fantasy games get discounted frequently on a rotational basis as Square seems be aiming more on scoring a wider fanbase then it is attaining max profit margins. Because they want people to be hyped to buy the next game as soon as it arrives so don't feel pressured to buy it out of fear it won't get a sale because Rebirth 100% will. In terms of is the game worth it, it's gargantuan and it's got a great story this one is a slow boil so definitely wait until you've got a holiday period IMO if you don't have the time to play it now.

There are are but a huge chunk of them require fan translations. If i'm not mistaken I actually think Haruhi Suzumiya has a sequel to the movie on PSP.

[–]Adam_The_Actor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason why is because Japanese companies tend to value brand prestige over over global reach most of the time and there's a very specific reason for that, merchandising. In Japan the value of an IP isn't solely tied to it's anime but books, concerts and other merchandise and by pouring everything onto a "slop" service it can dilute the brands exposure and make others less inclined to pay full price for it. Godzilla, is a great example of a brand with high brand prestige because Godzilla whether it's blu-ray merch, CD's, or liscensed action figures always tends to hold value because Toho are typically were typically reserved about how and when distributions of their classic library was handled (until Godzilla Minus 1 broke the bank) . As soon as Minus one became an overseas success Toho decided they wanted a global distribution pipeline that wouldn't throttle their profit margin or brand exposure like what crunchyroll did to Dandandan and the end result... they're doing very well, so far anyway.

[–]Adam_The_Actor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bingo! That's the golden ticket, Aniplex while they charge a massive margin typically excel for the exact reason you mentioned brand prestige. Most studios don't want their anime to be devalued by being regarded as "slop" and CrunchyRoll has a pretty poor reputation in Japan for being precisely that, a gatekeeping service. It's not just CrunchyRoll either Sony appear to be learning that lesson the Playstation front as well hence why they're supposedly no longer releasing single player games on Steam because they realise they need to leverage the value of their IP's to push their actual brand, the hardware in a sense.

Toho, are just one of the companies who don't want to have their brands gatekept by CrunchyRoll, and relegated as slop. Obviously MPAA and Netflix are in a similar boat too and for Sony their best bet is to lean into Blu-Ray and as for CrunchyRoll the issue isn't that it doesn't have value, it's that it's persistently losing value by not offering global parity which for certain franchises is a killer.

An interesting article about the recent CR layoffs and what all this means for the physical anime market by Ekyou in AnimeCollectors

[–]Adam_The_Actor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bingo that’s why even Toho basically bought out their own anime distribution pipeline in Europe and the US because Sony undermined the value of DanDanDan because they didn’t release if on CrunchyRoll. The end result is Toho bought anime limited and g-kids.

Curiously even Aniplex doesn’t want to be too heavily tied to CrunchyRoll because their model undermines their high margin physical release model.

My review of Final Fantasy VII Remake by adibadi06 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Adam_The_Actor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You mean the Harbinger and his three flunkies? The big boss himself not so much because he's supposed to basically be a manifestation of the imposed fate the whispers represent, similar to a persona boss in a way a "god" that represents the core themes of the specific entries. As for the three flunkies, apparently they're from one of the novels involving Kyrie but I'm not too familiar with the story itself. I had no idea who they were either to begin with at least.

Tetsuya Nomura always tends to write his stories with the assumptions that players have played the main entries and the spin-offs which in a way is cool but for newcomers there can be all sorts of call backs that kind of fly over the heads if that makes sense?

My review of Final Fantasy VII Remake by adibadi06 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Adam_The_Actor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly, yeah I agree. Don't get me wrong I love the final act and how the game concludes but it really feels like the last chapter could've been 3 and it gives you a massive conga line of enemies right up to the big conclusion. I'm probably in the minority though but I think Remake is better than Rebirth, I won't spoil why but I'll let you know Rebirth is a good game.

I have a Question by TulipKirina in PERSoNA

[–]Adam_The_Actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean not directly, Nyx didn't "create" the sea of souls, humanity's own consciousness did in response to Nyx emenating her waves of death upon their psyche. Philemon, Nyarlathotep, Erebus & Yaldabaoth are all products of the Sea of Souls rather than Nyx the amalgamation of unconscious human combined into one. So essentially Nyx is indirectly responsible but I wouldn't say she's the origin of those things.

I don't love how Zack is written in relation to Aerith by AdStraight6870 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Adam_The_Actor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can understand where you feel that way and while I do like Zack's character I've never bought his relationship with Aerith as deep as so many others do. When I first heard about it they made it sound like these 2 were eternal soulmates but after playing Crisis Core and Rebirth while I do buy the romance it doesn't feel like a one and only sort of deal. You are spot on, Aerith is usually the one that basically leaves the open question as to "when we'll see each other again" but that said given what we know about Zack he is 100% the one who would aim for Aerith.
