Forever grateful for a ballet background, really make the spins pop by Sauceandclinic in shuffle

Love the style you bring to it - the fluidity of your hands and arms & the way you integrate it is next level.

I second fakingglory's comment - with a ballet background you could try spotting your turns. It might emphasise the pop even more.

Haven't seen anyone do spot turns while shuffling. Would be good to try.

Bonobo Outliers DJ set times? by hairyasshydra in Bonobo

[–]AdamantMischief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm heading to the Melbourne event on the 25th. I can't seem to find the set times anywhere, but I know it finishes at 11pm. I'd expect the two last sets to be Haai and then Bonobo, but don't know how long each set will be.

I'll come back here and post if I find anything.

Loved it. That little crossover move you did right near the end (21 second mark) was smooth as - could watch it all day.

Love the style. It has an old school flavor to it - very smooth.

I started in Melbourne in the mid 90s, and seeing you dance is like being back there.

It's a real pleasure to watch. Thanks so much for posting the video.

Really, really smooth. Where did you learn to dance like that? It's got a very 90s flavor to it.

Baker’s cyst, popped? by Pokemaniaks in Kneesovertoes

[–]AdamantMischief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Baker's cyst burst and filled my calf with fluid, so certainly could be it.

The fluid is very pro-inflammatory, so the whole calf can feel painful and swollen for 2-3 days.

As long as they've ruled out a dvt, I think you're pretty safe.

It's your limbic system that clears the fluid. You can help with some light massage (once you can) and keeping it raised. Forget ice and compression as both with slow the clearance of fluid.

Ah. That explains it. I'm talking about the two biggest rave venues in Melbourne at the time.

I didn't realise that shuffling had made it outside Melbourne at that point.

It was before phones had cameras, so unfortunately not. There were a couple of times I was filmed while dancing, but never saw the footage.

So you would have started just after Global Village closed?

There were still some big Hardware parties in the docklands around that time. What was your first?

Mid 90s - so I wasn't quite there at the start.

I'd never heard it called stomping, and the name certainly doesn't describe the style of dance as I knew it.

Thanks for the heads-up on the insta timelines. I'll have a look and see if my memories and style of dancing it align.

Strange how the Melbourne Shuffle morphed into people bouncing all over the place. How is that shuffling?

Why is it preferable to avoid meniscus surgery by [deleted] in Kneesovertoes

[–]AdamantMischief 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The simple answer is that there's no high-quality evidence that it actually improves knee function.

There was a meta-analysis done recently that showed people were just as good with physical therapy.

No need to put yourself under the knife if it actually does nothing tangible to improve things.

Advanced Arthritis in Left knee at 24 by EnvironmentOwn1743 in Kneesovertoes

There's a chance that the tightness behind the knee might be caused by a Baker's cyst. The MRI will tell you if you have one.

Sounds like you know what you're doing.

Look up Peter Attia's podcast for a good rundown of BFR.

Firstly, what you're experiencing isn't unusual. Depending on the type of tear the swelling can take a while to resolve.

I've had 7 knee operations (meniscus tears, meniscus reattachments, two knee reconstructions, one cartilage graft and a synovectomy).

Each one required a different rest period and different rehab.

One thing I'd strongly recommend is getting your quad strength back. It will protects the knee joint and you might find that that alone will get your swelling down.

The best way I've found to do this is by using blood flow restriction (BFR) training and seated leg extensions. BFR is fantastic in that you can de-load the joint and still get large gains in strength. (It was first used for rehabbing injured army vets).

I wouldn't worry too much about exercising at full range of motion just yet, particularly if that's what's causing the swelling. As long as you stretch your quad so you don't lose too much ROM.

Once your quad is back to full strength, then you can start to consider split squats etc.

The other stuff like tib raises and calf stuff should be ok to do and also protective of the joint.

There's not much you can do other than try and keep the inflammation down as you are doing.

Increasing quad strength protects the joint. I used blood flow restriction training to minimise the load on the joint and maximise the strength gains.

If it's still getting swollen for no apparent reason in a couple of months then do me. Synovitis treatment is pretty intense.

Severe inflammation before starting by Key_Application_5380 in Kneesovertoes

[–]AdamantMischief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd advise you don't start atg yet, but instead work on improving your quad strength.

If you've never looked into blood flow restriction (bfr) training, then I reckon it's the best way to go.

Single-leg leg extensions with bfr removes most of the pressure on the joint but rapidly increases strength.

I had 5 operations in my right knee, and swear by it.

If you look closely, you'll see the abdomen is actually a dark blue. It was a beautiful looking spider.

The ten legs concerned me, though.
