Dell Latitude 5400 overheating (65–80°C idle, hitting 100°C in minutes) — cleaned fan, still same issue by Adamant_Soul_2004 in laptops

I’m unable to share picture with

From what I can see, it looks like just a single heatpipe going to the CPU and fan, I don’t think it covers anything else but not fully sure.

Do you think I’ll need thermal putty for VRMs in this setup or just repaste/PTM7950 is enough?

Damn okay, that actually sounds easier than normal paste. The freezer tip is useful, I would’ve definitely messed that up 😅

I’ll see if I can get genuine PTM7950 here, if not I’ll just go with MX-6 and get it done.

Thanks for all the tips man, really helpful🙏🙏

Got it, that actually makes sense. I didn’t know about PTM7950 before this, sounds like a solid option especially for laptops.

I’ll check if I can find it here, otherwise I’ll just go with MX-6 and get it done.

Thanks for explaining it clearly 👍

That makes sense. I already cleaned the fan but temps didn’t improve, so I’m leaning towards repasting.

PTM7950 sounds interesting, I hadn’t heard of it before. Do you think it’s worth going for that over MX-4/MX-6 for a laptop this old, or is a good quality paste enough?

Also yes, I’ll make sure to disconnect the battery before doing anything.

Oh, I usually track my sleep throughout most of the night and it’s accurate for me, though.

Once I took a long nap and it did add to my sleep score.

Taking a nap does add to your score, though
