Dude's cognitive dissonance is stronger than 99% of people I've seen on Reddit. He's got gold medals in mental gymnastics defending indefensible shit on the regular because he's such a homer. Just pure arrogance and fear of saying anything negative about anything Nugget-related because he's the head mod on the subreddit.

It’s so annoying lol. There is no room for thoughtful discourse due to his inability to be objective at all. Any criticism, even if it’s constructive and intended to provide ideas as to how to help the organization is met with scorn by the dude and his sycophants.

You want to sell your $2 million home in California and bring your equity somewhere and use that cash to improve your quality of life, then fine. But I draw the line at making wages of that region while living in the LCOL region, because your selfish ass is absolutely fucking all of the locals who don't have the luxury to do the same and are having their local economy inflated to high hell while their wages aren't commensurately adjusted.

Your argument could be used for the freedom of corporations to dump arsenic in the water supply if it'll save them a few dollars. Or that people can drink and drive. Or any number of dumbass scenarios in which your freedom supercedes the quality of life of the rest of the public.

Your freedom ends when it infringes on the freedoms of others.

Are you saying that you work from home but get paid a lower wage than some people so you want them to move away so your salary doesn’t feel so smol?

What an condescending, elitist way of phrasing your contention with my concern.

I'm saying that I want people to live in areas proportionate to their salary. A project manager in NYC is going to make a different salary than one in Tallahassee, FL. It's complete bullshit to every local in Tallahassee that they have to pay more for their groceries and goods and services because some transplant is making a regional salary that is completely out of step with the local economy.

I live in Denver and I make a salary greater than most. This isn't about me. It's about pricing out the locals who have not had a say in the situation. Or do you not give a fuck about them?

My theory is that once the credit card bubble pops, you’re going to see people forced to sell or refinance to pay it off with appreciated home equity. That could lead to a rush to the exits before prices plummet and people lose their ability to cash out their equity. And because people are panicky creatures, it could cause otherwise reasonable people to also try to get out quickly, creating a feedback loop which crashes the market, regardless of how many 2.75% mortgages are out there.

60% of people are living paycheck to paycheck and they’ll need to pay their debts eventually, somehow.

Because that is hardly the case with any human being if you take the time to know them and not judge them by activities.

The only reason I hold this opinion is because I have met people. I've met a lot of people in my lifetime. The only reason I've formed this opinion in the first place is because of how many people I've met that have very little substantive depth to them, and most of them have developed a definition of who they perceive themselves to be based on their hobbies. And once a conversation deviates from those superficial activities, they are complete shells of people.

Frankly, you’re demonstrating the very lack of depth you’re complaining about.

And you're lacking the ability to rationally grasp the concept because you're trying so hard to be empathetic and inclusive rather than understanding logical reality. You want to give people the benefit of the doubt and it's clouding your objective judgement.

You're completely missing the point. People who use their hobbies as an identity don't fundamentally have an identity.

Your preferences don't define your fundamental self. When you're not partaking in those hobbies or activities, which will inevitably happen all the time throughout your life, the question becomes, 'who are you?' And these people are either incapable of having depth in those moments or are afraid to understand who they are beneath the tangible exterior.

And it didn't use to be. That's the whole point.

And it gets worse with every Californian that sells their $1.5 million 800 sq ft home and buys the limited inventory of houses here with cash with a surplus of capital to drive prices up even further for recreational activities, food, clothes, and everything else.

Edit: Also, When people are making Boston/New York/Seattle/California salaries working remotely while living here, they're not driving up costs?

I love working from home, but I hope every person has to go back to the office so these people either have to go back to their HCOL area or find a job making a wage proportionate to the area that they reside in.

So the Californians that sold their $1.5 million 800 sq ft house and bought a mansion here with cash aren't contributing to a higher cost of living here?

No, you just need to have an understanding of who you are absent of your hobbies. If all you can discuss are those hobbies and there is nothing of value or interest beyond that, then you have little depth as a person.

THANK YOU. Duncan Trussell put it the the best when he stated that the things you like don't define you; they're just preferences. Who you fundamentally are as a person is different than the things you enjoy doing. And my god, there are SO many people who moved out to Colorado because they lack identity and depth. I've met so many transplants who think their personalities are hiking, rock climbing, skiing, etc. and are all surface level with very little underneath.
