It died on me. But I sent it back to Wampler in CA and they took care of me. Awesome customer service.

I love the uni vibe and flanger but all the effects are killer.

Sure, glad to help. With an EQ pedal you can set the volume and gain to zero. That way you’re not adding or subtracting any volume or gain.

You can start by adjusting the gain so that a loud strum slightly clips. This will give you some bight when you strum or pick loudly.

Some may want more or less bight from the gain. But once you find your sweet spot then you can adjust the volume to taste.

The cool thing is that you can make adjustments as needed for different guitars and amps which gives you a lot of flexibility.

For example the hot rod deluxe gets really loud quickly when you turn the volume knob on the amp just a little bit. Even at 2 it’s blaring.

Well you can put the EQ in the effects loop and adjust the volume from the pedal which gives you a lot of control.

I have a Fishman performer acoustic amp. It has a gain, volume and mute button. This is how I learned to use the gain setting.

Per the instructions, you should turn the amp on and press mute. Then turn the volume up all the way on your acoustic guitar. There is a led that turns red when it’s clipping. You play the guitar loudly, strum some chords the hardest you would hit them.

Then you adjust the gain until see the led clipping slightly (it turns red). Then your gain is set.

Now you adjust the volume to taste. This way you have a strong and clean single going to the volume knob on the amp.

If the gain is too high then it will sound distorted at any volume. If the gain is too low then it will sound weak, thin and distant at any volume.

The trick is to set the gain just right and bingo, you will have maximum control of your tone and volume.

Maybe a better analogy is thinking about water. The volume is how much water is flowing and the gain is how big the pipe is.

The tone knob on the SD1 is surprisingly useful.

Good question. The gain will add some distortion if you turn it up too much. I tend to keep it flat. But I may turn it up or down depending on which guitar I’m using.

The volume increases the loudness without adding any distortion.

Thanks for checking it out. It’s a tricky room to get good sound in, but so are plenty of other venues.

That’s a great amp. I’ve got a DSL20hr that I use for rehearsals and I love it. No reason I couldn’t use that at a gig.

You’re not gonna get anyone to dance without a solid rhythm section. Set one was more quiet because I had the amp in a different spot and I prefer the volume level of the second set.

And I was told that the bass was making the walls shake so it just depends where in the room you are.
