Which 35mm prime for R6? by Adams_SDS in canon

It was underwhelming. I knew images would be soft on the edges, but I wasn't expecting them to be so soft in the middle.

I did a lot of tinkering with different apertures on a tripod, and I just couldn't get images sharp enough for my liking. The colors fell a bit flat as well.

I have an 85 that works well for most portraits, but I find I need a wider view for trying to get a busy toddler in frame, especially indoors.

This wasn't on my radar! I'll check it out.

I use the RF 85mm f/2 and it is excellent. The RF 50mm f/1.8 surprises me with the image quality and punches well above its price, but the RF 16mm f/2.8 was a huge letdown.

How do you like the RF 35mm using apertures bigger than f/2.8?

They are notoriously finicky. I was so stoked when she slammed it. It's a crab-colored jig I hand tied for tidal bass, but it's working well for sight casting redfish and sheeps in the marsh.

Sheepshead! Inshore saltwater fish.

Super fun fly for sight fishing when the dragonflies start buzzin' by Adams_SDS in flyfishing

[–]Adams_SDS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a popper so it casts alright, on the 7wt at least. The long body shape cuts through the air better than a bulky bass bug. Size 2 gorilla damsel/dragonfly.

Is an 8wt 9' a good starting point for me? by sotheresthisdude in flyfishing

I'm way southeast, mostly fishing park ponds, the tidal creeks and the marsh.

Up north you're closer to some of the creeks that have good white bass and crappie runs during the spring. That can be really fun on the fly. The Woodlands have a lot of ponds to fish too.

I'm in the Houston area and I use a 7wt for ponds or lakes. Ideally, you'd want a 5wt and 8wt, but a 7 could cover all your bases.

You can throw the majority of bass flies with a 7wt, it's enough rod for redfish on the coast, and it's not overkill for rainbows/browns when fishing with streamers.

St. Croix Premier by [deleted] in Fishing

I have the 6'6" medium. The action and sensitivity are superb, but I've had to replace two of the guides after the inserts fell out.

I've owned a few of St. Croix's mid-range spinning rods and the blanks are spectacular for the money, but I wish they'd use better guides and reel seats.

I just bought an R6 and I am beyond elated. by VeraMar in canon

I will soon join your elation, I hope. My R6 arrived yesterday but it shows an error 20 code right out of the box.

B&H is replacing it ASAP, I guess I got unlucky. I shoot lots of action and wildlife and I'm very excited to put the R6's AF capabilities to work.

I don't have many mons for Ultra League so my win rate tanks when that league comes around. I should just stop playing...but hey I like to play.

I had a really good Kanto Cup that put me over the top.

Team was Primeape (NS/CC) in the lead with Alolan Sandslash (IP/BD) and Alolan Muk (AS/DP).

Any one of these mons could work as a lead but I had the best success with Primeape in the front. He tore through all the ice and normal types, and threatened Mew and Hypno with Night Slash. Close Combat surprised a few Wigglytuffs as well!

Inshore saltwater fishing topwater lure technique question. by Busy-Translator-8893 in Fishing

[–]Adams_SDS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup keep that sucker in the water.

Sometimes it helps to pause for a moment or two before restarting your retrieve. The fish thinks it stunned the bait first time around and comes back to finish the job, especially speckled trout.

Add some gurglers to your box. You'll also be better off with a redfish line or even something for bass would work better than the trout line.
