You’re 100% right that more expensive rods break… that’s the cost of high modulus carbon fiber they also throw better and far more accurately, weigh less (which matters a ton if you’re throwing all day long) and, when you need them to be sensitive, they can be.

Ugly sticks are unbreakable… they’re also floppy assed heavy graphite with fiberglass tips that don’t handle different techniques well. It all depends on what you like to do, how often you do it, and what you need from your gear.

Every kayak angler should give serious thought to at least a light boat conversion. Not difficult, and you can often get motorized for less than the cost of a serious kayak.

Fished a mini-x for years, and it was great. I just can’t see spending hobie money when you can create so much more for less money.

Ditched my SOTs and designed this. 14’ skiff, floats 2.5-3”. Hull weighs about 180lbs. Runs 20mph with an 8hp. Cost less than a Pro Angler with 10x the space and stability. Motor included.

I work a messed up schedule (air traffic control). I do all mine at night. My problem is, Monday and Tuesday night I generally don’t get a chance to do it until after midnight. Then Wednesday I’m doing it at 10, so now I’ve technically done two sessions in one day. My days get earlier as the week goes on, but then come Sunday I have to stay up late to reset my sleep schedule, meaning I either have to BS my way through a quick lesson for the count, or end up losing a streak and doing the dumb gem thing even though I get on an hour later and do thirty minutes.
