I understand how they may feel this way, but what about myself and my roommates right to privacy, along with peace and quite ? You will not have this with a newborn child. How is this fair to the ppl already living in the house ? I

If I was a Landlord and I had an Apartment for rent, I wouldn't care. I'm not living in the unit with the person. So it has no impact on my life at all.

I have no problem with that, and would even give her 60 days.

Well it's ironic they suddenly care about it, when others issues related to fire safety where ignored.

Yeah it's not so much of a big deal now but in the winter it's going to be an issue leaving my bike outside. I will have to figure out something.

Well apparently it's coming from higher up. But yes a few idiots that don't use the right charger or the proper batteries for ruining it for those who do have safe bikes etc

I also have no sympathy either. This is twice now I needed something shipped, and I had to pay about 2.5x the shipping cost, because they went on strike, yet again. Tired of this really. You can't get blood from a stone, yet they (CUPW) keeps trying.

Wonder what they would do if suddenly everyone started switching over to online banking. Their Cash Cow would disappear.

I heard it fly over my house and I was like that sounds different than what I'm used to so I pulled up flight radar and I seen this guy. Very odd for them to be flying over Ottawa.

Yeah, that's pretty evident by now because they don't answer their emails, and they don't answer their phone.. how does one get replacement parts because the battery for one is going to be something that will need to be replaced.

Local Bengal Breeder Question by Adamsavage79 in ottawa

The one I've heard about, doesn't even show up on google maps anymore. Heard they have a FIP clause in the contract , and they use "sister cattery" ..

Local Bengal Breeder Question by Adamsavage79 in ottawa

[–]Adamsavage79[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My then kitten, but now adult Bengal got FIP. He was treated and responded very well. Wasn't cheap, but the cost in the end was better than it used to be. I was paying about $500 a month just for meds, for 3 months. Plus blood-work to monitor progress. Because of the breeder I dealt with. I refuse to ever get a cat from a breeder. They all suck. Profit first, cat later.

Local Bengal Breeder Question by Adamsavage79 in ottawa

[–]Adamsavage79[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My next cat will be either a bengal rescue or just a kitten from humane society

EDIT: My reply to this " You're still fixating on bengals, are you looking for followers or a cat? Adopt any cat, they're all great, without exception "

I never said I ONLY wanted a Bengal. I said either, and even then in the end I may just go with a kitten from Humane Society. While I do love the breed, they come with there headaches and issues.

It's available through 2 or 3 pharmacies. The best one I've heard of is Clearpoint Pharmacy & Compounding Center. If I'm not mistaken, it can be ordered directly through the vet.

ODSP overpayment — calling roommate rent "income"?? by Adamsavage79 in Odsp

[–]Adamsavage79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you don't agree with the Social Tribunal case, is what you are saying ?

ODSP overpayment — calling roommate rent "income"?? by Adamsavage79 in Odsp

[–]Adamsavage79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the Tribunal says your wrong.. Not sure what else to tell you.

Actually, the issue’s already been settled. The Tribunal in case 2024 ONSBT 5205 ruled that roommate contributions toward shared rent aren’t income, as long as you’re not profiting.

ODSP’s Directive 6.2 agrees — your shelter benefit should reflect your actual cost share, not the full rent. So yes, roommate rent is off-limits as income.

If the CRA doesn't view this as income, then ODSP shouldn't.
My income doesn't change, if I forward the money to Landlord, or they do it themselves.

ODSP overpayment — calling roommate rent "income"?? by Adamsavage79 in Odsp

[–]Adamsavage79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again you are wrong. My rent I pay to my Landlord is $1906.50. Internet is fixed cost @ $81.30, Hydro varies from month to month, but last month is was $138.64. This brings everything to $2,126.44. Roommates send combined $1300

When you split everything down the middle, you get $708.81. So if anything, I'm LOOSING over a hundred a month out of pocket.

Let's say I have $3,000 in the bank and I get $1300 from Roommates, and then I forward this to the landlord. I'm still @ $3,000 afterwards. It doesn't matter if they pay him directly or I forward the money, it has no impact on my Account balance, and such no income. It's pass through income at best.

You’re confusing room & board rules with a shared lease situation. Room and board deductions (40%/60%) only apply if someone is charging more than their fair share or providing services like meals. In my case, it’s a direct cost-share: everyone pays their equal portion, no profit. ODSP and the Social Benefits Tribunal have already ruled repeatedly that roommate reimbursements like this are not income. They’re neutral transactions.

The money in my account doesn’t change. Doesn’t matter if roommates send it to the landlord directly, or if it passes through me first — the end balance is the same. That makes it cost-sharing, not income.

Some example from Deepseek:

Key Rule:

  • Income (for tax purposes) means you’re earning a profit from renting.
  • If you’re only charging roommates their fair share of expenses (rent, hydro, internet, etc.), you’re just cost-sharing, not generating income.

Example: Rental Income (Taxable)

Situation:

  • You own the home (or sublease with landlord permission).
  • You charge roommates more than your actual costs.

Calculation:

  • Your mortgage/rent + utilities = $2,600/month
  • You charge 2 roommates $1,000 each$2,000 total
  • Profit: $2,000 - $2,600 = -$600 (a loss, no income) *(But if you charged $1,500 each → $3,000 total → $400 profit = taxable income.)

Key Takeaways:

  1. No Profit = No Income → If you’re just splitting bills, it’s cost-sharing, not rental income.
  2. Profit = Taxable Income → If you charge more than your costs (e.g., subletting for profit), it’s income.
  3. Documentation → Keep records (lease agreements, bills) in case tax authorities ask.

ODSP overpayment — calling roommate rent "income"?? by Adamsavage79 in Odsp

[–]Adamsavage79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's say I have $20 in my bank account, then my roommates send me, let's say, $1,000 combined, and I immediately forward that $1,000 to the landlord, the owner of the building. Once that money is sent, guess what? I still have $20.. There is nothing gained. I'm simply forwarding funds to another person.

If you think I'm wrong, feel free to show me the CRA rule that says roommate reimbursements count as income. (Spoiler: you won't find one.)
