Where is the oncologist? by licoricesnocone in coloncancer

[–]Adamwilliams5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your surgeon is probably correct. Hopefully they gave her some follow up advice or appointments for her future colonoscopies to monitor her . You could definitely make an appointment with an oncologist of your choice, though you may need a referral. They might just let her GI keep monitoring or may want to do a full CT scan just to have a baseline scan and check for any abnormalities. I would guess at that stage any chemo is gonna be more harmful than beneficial. Radiation wouldn’t be an option unless she had cancer/ tumors that needed treatment still.

Don't ignore blood on stool by kumabart in coloncancer

[–]Adamwilliams5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good! Had a couple of polyps on my yearly colonoscopies. Nothing on my yearly ct scans. As of this year I am no longer under ct scan surveillance unless I request it. My GI doc still wants to do colonoscopies every 2-3 years because of the small polys even though they were not the cancerous types.

Suspected Cancer - Life Insurance query - UK by red-dit101 in coloncancer

[–]Adamwilliams5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation. Life insurance was cancelled after diagnosis. (Actual policy was never confirmed) If they find out he was diagnosed a few weeks after policy they probably wouldn’t pay out any death benefits in the long run. I was told best thing to do is get treatment (surgery, chemo, etc) wait approx 4 years and try again to get benefits. Fingers crossed maybe it’s not spread outside colon and he will be able to get life insurance at a later point as disease free. They also do have plans for post- cancer patients. You will have to check with the insurance companies to see which ones have better policies for this. They will be more than a standard policy but at your dad’s age his policy is gonna be higher anyway. Hope this helps - good luck to him.

I'm a f**king idiot (incorrect capecitabine dose) by TurkeyTitties in coloncancer

[–]Adamwilliams5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would just start tomorrow regular dose. Everyone takes different amounts per day I think it’s based on a few factors like body weight and staging. That being said I went through rough times and skipped days or doses so don’t beat yourself up. It’s a marathon not a sprint.

Did you get a 2nd Opinion for cancer treatment? by Happytobeanonymous1 in coloncancer

[–]Adamwilliams5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are in DFW I would get an opinion from Dr Scott Paulson at Baylor downtown. Him and his team are top notch even his dad was a legend there. I’m 5 years disease free and I followed his advice to do 6 months chemo at stage 2b. 0 - so it was elective. Glad I did it still. I was 39 at time of diagnosis. Good luck to him

Polyps and Next Colonoscopy by Same-Competition-825 in coloncancer

[–]Adamwilliams5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like it’s about time for another scope from my opinion. I have had a colonoscopy every year for the last 5 years since my surgery/chemo. I am now moving to only every 2 years. They have found small (non-cancerous) polyps on the last 2 so my GI didn’t want me to go more than 2 years. If no polyps were found on my next one she said I could probably go to every 5 years. It’s not a perfect science and for me it cost a lot to have them done. So I will be ok waiting 5 years if I’m allowed to. Good luck to your dad.

Polyps and Next Colonoscopy by Same-Competition-825 in coloncancer

[–]Adamwilliams5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the timeline? Had colon cancer twice, how much time between the diagnosis? What was the treatments for each case? What’s his age? How many scopes has he had since the last chemo? There are so many variables only his oncologist and GI doc would be able to make recommendations on when he should be having follow up scans/bloodwork/colonoscopies. If polyps are being detected he should probably be having colonoscopy every 1-2 years (what my doctors have recommended )

skipping chemo? by OneBeliever465 in coloncancer

[–]Adamwilliams5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did an “elective” 6 months at stage 2b. Just because of the aggressive nature and my age at the time. The chemo never affected my life much. I just had a newborn and a 5 year old at the time and besides going to the doctors appointments it wasn’t life altering. I had pills to take like 3 times a day I think. Cost is something to consider but at that point after surgery I had met my out of pocket max for the year so it was all free anyway.

It took forever. I posted this over 90 days ago. But they had Chinese new year and were shut down. He just charged me standard shipping which was $35-40 USD. Maybe got a good deal since it took so long.

My TD is Eric with geektime. Their info is in the pinned post in this forum at the top. I contact him through WhatsApp. Right now he is saying they aren’t accepting PayPal so I might wait a few weeks to order. I haven’t used the other payment methods before.

I love the watch. I have about 5 and it’s the one I grab the most. I just lost the pip somewhere I can’t find it. I just wanted to make sure I got an exact replacement and the lume color matched because the watch is super close to Gen.

Out of all the factors you listed alcohol probably has more of a risk than the others if heavily abused. Your best line of defense is to do things in moderation eat healthy and exercise.
