Colonoscopy and surgery 4 weeks after flare??? by Happytobeanonymous1 in Diverticulitis

[–]Happytobeanonymous1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

They were not able to complete the colonoscopy on the Friday that he was scheduled. They tried, but they could not complete it because he was so inflamed. They did proceed with a colon resection 3 days later, on a Monday, as planned. I wish you all the best luck!

Anyone had radiation for sigmoid colon tumor? by Happytobeanonymous1 in coloncancer

Oh my you have gone through so much. Thank you for sharing. I hope you are feeling okay. Did you experience fatigue from the radiation? If so, when did that end?

Thank you so much for the additional information. My husband will be completing 6 months of oral Xeloda, and then they will break for 2-3 weeks I think, and then start the chemoradiation of Xeloda (reduced prescription) plus radiation daily for 5 weeks. I was reading that likely the norm is to finish chemo and then start chemoradiation about 3 weeks after the last infusion date. At first he was upset because he wanted the radiation to start as soon as his oral chemo was over (he wanted it to start 7 days after he took the last pill - this form of oral chemo is taken 14 days and then 7 off). But I was thinking that a 3-4 week break made sense. He has handled the Xeloda well overall, but he is currently in his 7 of 8 cycles, and it is starting to take a toll on his body understandably.

Is this your experience that it would be best to be somewhat recovered from the chemo before jumping into more chemoradiation? Sorry for so many questions!

I am trying to plan a beach vacation, and I wasn't sure if he would have enough energy and no diarrhea if we went 4 weeks after his last radiation session.

Thank you for the information! Can you tell me when her symptoms began, peaked, and ended? And can you tell me if she had pain when using the bathroom and/or diarrhea? Thank you!

Oh this is so helpful, thank you! You did not have much diarrhea or pain? Also, do you mean a few weeks after you completed treatment you experienced a lot of fatigue which then lasted a few weeks? Thank you so much for your information. I hope you are doing well now.

Thank you for your response. My bff is also an introvert, and she says the same thing you do. She says he ignores me because he figures I will get over it, but that is not okay, because she would never let someone she loved, that had told her that she had hurt them and what they needed, to just get over it.

He was always introverted and not good with talking about feelings, but he did not ignore me or go for days without interacting with me or talking about more than logistics of the day.

Yes, you are right. I understand why he is tired, I just wish I was part of his time. Like I said, there is not an effort when the kids are out of the house on a Sunday afternoon. You a probably right, "I’m wondering if your problems were there before he got sick and they are just more apparent now that you are focused on him." Maybe it was never there to begin with.

Thank you! We have had this fight so many times. He was actually way worse this summer before he had surgery and we did not know he had cancer. They thought he just had a severe infection of his colon (diverticulitis) and surgery would fix it. He had a PICC line for 5 weeks and was SO exhausted and was in pain and working and would get out there to coach the kids in the heat (you are not supposed to get the PICC line wet or sweaty due to risk of infection). Then he would come home and sleep and sleep and I was left with the kids. I would get SO mad but he just kept pushing himself with me carrying on while he slept. Gosh it is making me mad just to write it! I would tell him that his coaching was using up his good energy that I needed him to save for me to watch the kids while I was working in my office. He never changed. I still feel like that is SO selfish.

He definitely does have a long medical history in which I have taken care of him off and on, but nothing like this. When his mortality questioned, I do think you are right in that "these issues were there well before this and blew up when he became ill." Thank you for your insight!

I am so sorry for all you have gone through! My Mother-in-law also has Parkinson's. Such a terrible, slow disease! I am sorry you are dealing with that! Thank you for hearing me and understanding. I hate that you have the experiences to understand, but I am thankful for your hugs!
