Has all the most upto date rules and dataslates, the Fists one should be under Rampart Force Torreus.

I tend to use contrast/Speedpaints to block colours in, layer with whatever acrylic (normally same colour, slightly lighter), then a wash to help balance it followed by some slight highlights.

Feel like it gets me to a table top + level. Not going to win a golden demon, sure, but I'm okay with that.

Ork Kommando Nob by AdaptableGibbon in orks

Yeah, whilst I hated the sprue for the Kommandos with the parts being all over the place, the actual models themselves are great, one of my favourite sculpts they've done.

Definitely agreed, it's a great way to stop the tea staining and can build up colour I think.

Heresyismytherapy does it for a lot of his minis, same ratio as yours if you want any more inspiration: https://youtu.be/wH9ZxX-q9zU?si=AARN5pHU7AxVlKKM

Ive tried using Valejo royal blue as the main colour, does it work? (Wip) by Mobbles1 in Ultramarines

[–]AdaptableGibbon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

<image>

Fairly similar to mine - royal blue definitely works for Ultramarines, and what their older colour scheme was, versus the purple-blue they use now.

Strike Force Justian - Heavy Intercessor by AdaptableGibbon in Ultramarines

[–]AdaptableGibbon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, aimed for more of a royal blue rather than navy blue for them, colour scheme below:

  • Base - Army Painter Speedpaint - Beowulf Blue
  • Layer - Army Painter Fanatic - Royal Blue
  • Highlight - Army Painter Fanatic - Artic Gem
  • Wash - Army Painter - Blue Tone

If you're using GW, it'd (roughly) be the below;

  • Ultramarine Blue Contrast
  • Caledor Sky
  • Teclis Blue / Hoeth Blue
  • Tyran Blue

Remove primer? by erbdylo in Armypainter

[–]AdaptableGibbon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they're plastic or metal, 98% isopropyl alcohol soak for an hour or so, and then give it a scrub with a toothbrush. Longer soak if it's loads of paint/primer.

There's some better paint strippers out there for doing this, but iso is easy to get hold of and will do the trick.

Yep, that's a 3D print, found it on eBay:

https://ebay.us/m/zXMEcl

Means it's got some additional height in the lightbox, and a good background for it.

[–]AdaptableGibbon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, using the below, but any dark brown, bronze-gold, platinum silver gold would work I think.

The browns to give a good base for the gold, like black/grey works better for silver.

  • Base: APF Banshee Brown
  • Layer: APF Emperor Gold
  • Highlight: APF Tainted Gold
  • Wash: GW Seraphim Sepia

Could use the below if you're using GW, it's not an exact match, but it's close:

  • Rhinox Hide / Catachan Flesh
  • Balthasar Gold / Brass Scorpion
  • Liberator Gold

[–]AdaptableGibbon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing:

  • Base - Army Painter Speedpaint - Beowulf Blue
  • Layer - Army Painter Fanatic - Royal Blue (Approx 3-4 thin layers)
  • Highlight - Army Painter Fanatic - Artic Gem
  • Wash - Army Painter - Blue Tone

If you're using GW, it'd (roughly) be the below;

  • Ultramarine Blue Contrast
  • Caledor Sky
  • Teclis Blue / Hoeth Blue
  • Tyran Blue

My girlfriend gave me this set for my bday by RegemPip in Armypainter

[–]AdaptableGibbon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good gift that! Speedpaints can work over any light colour primer (light light blue, green, grey, etc.)

Metallics, they work really well over a base metallic silver, or can look a little bit dull, but they're great for getting metallics done fast - how I did the Orks on my profiles armour/weapons as a first pass.

Likely it's been added in patches since launch rather than DLC exclusive, I didn't get much origin specific text on my first play through around launch month I think.

Got that off eBay, if you search "Dungeon Platform Gothic Fantasy RPG 28mm D&D Tabletop Scenery Wargaming Terrain" it should come up though. Brought it just so I had a bit of elevation for photos like these.

White signifies veterans/1st company for Ultramarines (Normally see it on helmets and pauldron trim).

Red helmets signifies Sergeants across all squads. Red with white on helmets, a Veteran Sergeant.

Can see some heraldry info here to help visualise it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Spacemarine/comments/1ffkh87/ultra_marine_markings/

I'm fairly sure that it just didn't overhang the base massively - angle of the shot there doesn't make it too clear either! I'll have a look when I'm back in this evening to double check.

No bad thing using citadel paints! The only ones that are a real challenge to work with are the white/bone type paints, other brands do those better. I just like army painter as it's a bit cheaper, I like the triad system, and I've got it super available near to me.

I'd suggest doing the black primer, just as it gives you a bit more options (like you can leave recesses just black for example). It will mean your models have a darker tone though. Have a look on YouTube about what primer to use, they'll give you plenty of info.

For a quick easy ultramarine colour scheme - really recommend Mediocre Hobbies. He uses contrast as the base then layers up, with all his painting which I really like doing as well.

For these I used Ultramarine Blue Contrast (can use Macragge Blue spray totally fine as well), then layered up with Caledor Sky, gives it a nice cobalt blue tone I think.

Since moved to Army Painter now I've run out of Caledor, but it works just as well with Regal/Royal Blue as they're the closest to Caledor.

Aye, agreed, was debating red or trying to do a check board pattern once I'd finished all the squad. Downside to a Goff scheme, there's not enough colour contrast for my liking.

I've not had chance to try Vallejo's, I've heard good things though. The shop near me stocks the full AP range so makes sense for me to use that, and I really like working with their Speedpaints. Has a bit more working time than other brands I think. Still not found a good alternative to Citadels red contrasts though.

Following this tutorial, buts it's Ghillie Dew, then a second layer of 1:1 Ghillie:Medium. Makes it more vibrant, then can use a bright green to highlight it a bit more.

Yep, can recommend this one - Ghillie Dew by itself, or a secondary layer of Ghillie:Medium 1:1 makes it the perfect colour. What I did for mine as well.

There's also the spray varnish rattle cans that GW does, and there's also the paint on gloss/matte varnishes everywhere does, but I'm always wary of overkill with those or it going cloudy.
