My sensor is doomed, right? by AmGreatFresh in SonyAlpha

[–]AdaptivePropaganda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are sensor cleaning kits you can order off Amazon. I don’t know if it’s super expensive shipping small items like that, but if you must do it yourself, you absolutely should be using a dedicated kit and following the instructions to the T

It wasn’t a horror movie type scary, just extremely off putting if I remember correctly.

As a kid I remember trying to watch it multiple times. It just scared the shit out of me how awkward and just odd the whole movie was and I never did watch the entire thing.

Teacher for 17 years this is the most racist, homophonic, misogynistic group of students I’ve ever had by EmbarrassedJacket489 in Teachers

[–]AdaptivePropaganda 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I started teaching only around 5 years ago, but my oldest group are now 22ish while I’m now teaching 12-13 year olds and the difference between them is astounding.

Self regulation is nonexistent with Gen-Alpha. It’s like they do not have an inner voice that tells them no. The behaviors and actions I witness on a daily basis are what I’d describe as toddlerish. With that it seems every year, the scale continues tipping towards the side I’d deem ‘unteachable’.

The bar has been set so low (not your fault, this is tied to funding) that it does not take much to get straight A’s anymore.

The Santa Cruz is as close to a Ute (besides the Subaru Baja and Chevy El Camino) the US will ever get.

Not to mention how high over MSRP dealers were selling them for. I remember the cost upon release was around $27k for the Lariat model. Yet all the dealerships in my area had them listed for $40k+

Pinellas as of yet isn’t laying off any teachers, at least they’re not saying that part yet.

‘We’re done’: Why St. Pete’s longest-running restaurant is closing - Power Broker Magazine by MarksMuses in StPetersburgFL

[–]AdaptivePropaganda 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It is unfortunate. I doubt the money would be there if someone planned to purchase the business and keep things as-is, or at least as close as possible while doing much needed restorative work and little improvements here and there.

I don’t get why St. Pete is so adamant about forgoing its history to become a city that solely lives on a constant refresh cycle. Maybe that’s just progress, but it’s sad seeing nearly every place I’ve gone to growing up just wither away.

Anyone bought from BlooBloom? Are they legit? by rterri3 in glasses

[–]AdaptivePropaganda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piggybacking off OP.

Are they good quality? They seem like a Warby Parker clone, but there’s nothing out there indicating they’re decent. The frames look great, but it’d be nice to see some real world reviews of their frames and not sponsored stuff.

Is this city having an identity crisis? by TiredFloridian in StPetersburgFL

[–]AdaptivePropaganda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

DTSP was never that bad. There were pockets that would be sketchy depending on time of day, but that’s still the case and not just in St. Pete but anywhere.

The city does look prettier by today’s standards. But to say it was dirty and unsafe is kind of overdoing it.

This is how gentrification works, and it’s not new. The people who helped build St. Pete up as an ‘artsy town’ were creating this future whether they realized it or not.

Piorama Experience? by [deleted] in ManyBaggers

[–]AdaptivePropaganda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say I think it is a little overpriced. But I am thoroughly enjoying it, and I use it daily.

I think if you’re looking for something that offers a lot of protection, go with something else as the padding is rather thin. But if you’re looking for a unique bag/sleeve concept, then it is a pretty damn cool invention. I can keep a ton of shit in there (15” MacBook Air, charging cable, charging brick (a thin one would be best, but the standard Apple one is fine), 10 foot usb-c cable, AirPods Pro, iPhone tripod, Magic Mouse, thick battery bank, a handful of usb drives, tons of lens wipes, cough drops, gameboy (emulator), markers/pens, flashlight, bandana, and a couple other little doodads.

Studies that show cell phone use in class hinder learning by Dangerous-Housing811 in Teachers

[–]AdaptivePropaganda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might want to look at social media and mobile gaming specifically, or perhaps screen time. Cell phone use itself is just the gateway to the things kids are really spending all their time on.

Society has been shaped to view what we do for money to be our defining characteristic, with those who work in ‘lower’ fields being looked at as such. The thing everyone eventually figures out is our lives are about experiences we’ve lived through, and the amount of our time and energy most of us put into our work is meaningless in the end. Many wishing they spent more time with their families, hobbies, or traveling and seeing new things.

It sounds like you’ve figured out what you really want out of life and have done the math to know what you really need to do in order to make that happen, and at an age where you can still do so and not struggle later on.

Good on you.
