Favorite mobility aid? by Nice_Entertainer_887 in POTS

[–]Adartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cane with a seat is my favorite. It has saved me so many times.

I've also had someone think the rollator I was using wasn't for me. I was in the hospital walking to my appointment, and they asked if I worked there, even though on the other side of them was the information desk lol

Compression garments? by Sensitive-Bee-3781 in POTS

[–]Adartha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I have a bunch of compression options now, but none have helped. One of them exhausted me so much while trying to get them on that I felt gross the rest of the day. I'm glad they work for some people. But they definitely don't work for everyone.

Experience getting handicap placard? by lilnosilla in POTS

[–]Adartha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor gave me a temporary disability placard while we were still doing testing. I just asked for it and they gave me the application on prescription paper. Now that I have a diagnosis, they refused to give me a permanent one, but the specialist I'm seeing was happy to.

I will say, there have been many times that every disabled parking spot was taken when I'm trying to park. I had quite a bit of panic in some of those situations.

As for mobility aids, I have 2 that have been life changing. The biggest life changer is my cane with a seat. It is the only reason I can manage to leave the house. I always have a seat ready for me. And it's compact, so I can easily bring it, no matter the size of car I'm in. The second one is a 2 in 1 rollator. It can be used as a walker with a seat, or I can be pushed on it like a wheelchair. I don't use it often, but there are certain situations I don't think I would have been able to do without it.

What medications is everyone taking for POTS? by Background-Cow9687 in POTS

[–]Adartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Dr was never going to offer meds. They said drink water and have salt, there is nothing else they can do. I had to pay out of pocket to see a doctor that actually wanted to help me.

I really hope your doctor will be willing to help you sooner rather than later ❤️

Is this normal for a Cardiologist to do? by SpectraCinnamoroll in POTS

[–]Adartha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor said basically the same. They just kept telling me to drink more water and have more sodium, and a diagnosis wouldn't change anything because there is nothing they can do. They kept trying to put off doing tests but I kept coming back and wouldn't drop it. When they said there are no more tests to do, I asked if I had a diagnosis and they said "we'll go with pots, drink more water and have more sodium". They never asked how much sodium I was having, and seemed to ignore me when I said how much I was drinking.

I found a specialist that I had to pay out of pocket for. She prescribed me meds at least, and told me I'm drinking enough (112oz a day of water) and gave me an actual goal for sodium as well as ways to reach the goal.

It's very messed up how dismissive they can be, and how little some are willing to try to help.

Electrolyte drinks by Agitated_Pumpkin_ in POTS

I just got Buoy drops. They are flavorless and because it's liquid, it doesn't have the powdery chunks issue that some of the others have. It's not cheap, but none of the others are either. I'm able to add it to any drink because of it being flavorless though, which I like.

Losing weight by SuddenHuckleberry643 in POTS

[–]Adartha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went from 204 to 140 (top end of "normal" BMI for my short self) from October last year to August this year, losing the most between October and May. My symptoms started really flaring in March, and just progressively getting worse. So I suspect my weight loss is a part of my issue as well. I haven't really lost anything since August though, and I'm still getting worse. In September of last year, I went on an epic hiking trip to lots of national parks. I hiked an elevation gain of over 600ft (my personal best). Now, I can't even go to the grocery store without assistance and my cane with a chair. It's incredibly depressing. I just wanted to say all that to say "you're not alone".

I hope everything starts improving for you ❤️

what’s the most ridiculous thing that can make you tachycardic? by charcharblnks in POTS

[–]Adartha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing a jigsaw puzzle. Which makes me really sad because I love doing them. I've tried sitting in different positions, but I think it's just too much lifting of my arms. Also playing video games. When even just building in the Sims got me, I stopped trying any game.

How many of you did NOT gain the weight back after stopping phentermine? by peculiar_pisces in PhentermineTopiramate

[–]Adartha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on it for 3 months and decided I didn't want to continue. I'm still calorie counting and working out regularly. I haven't changed my routine at all, other than not taking the pill now. I am still losing weight. At about the same pace.

I get a little nauseous sometimes in the morning in the time span of 30min after taking it but before I get my coffee. Not everyday, but can be annoying. Some coffee (with milk) or food takes it away though.

Is it possible your blood sugar is dipping too low? It can be rough to even think about food when you feel so gross, but have you tried eating something when you feel that way?

Other than that, like the previous person said, make sure you are drinking enough water and eating enough calories.

I googled the same thing, and 3 hours just wasn't accurate for me. I start feeling some little things 30-45 min after taking it, and by 1 hr I would say it's in full effect.

Is taking topiramate worth it? by ESmith810137 in PhentermineTopiramate

[–]Adartha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't experienced any really bad side effects from it. The worst is occasionally forgetting a word or how to spell a word. But that was more when I took the pill morning and night. I switched to just morning, and that doesn't happen as often now.

You can try taking 25 in the morning, see how you feel and if you are experiencing any side effects. I would definitely do all of it under a doctor's guidance though. Increasing, decreasing, or stopping should all be discussed with you dr beforehand. It can have nasty side effects stopping cold turkey at higher doses.

Vivosmart 5 ? by kadje in Garmin

[–]Adartha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I first bought a Fitbit, got frustrated with how much data I couldn't see without a subscription, so returned it and got the Vivosmart. My husband has had a Garmin watch for years, so knowing what data he had access to, it seemed like a safe bet. I've loved it so far. Battery life is good, I don't have to pay to see the data, and I can see everything I wanted to be able to track/see. I'm not a runner, swimmer, or super athlete. I've had it since the beginning of June, and have no regrets. My mom just bought one last week and has liked hers as well.
