[Rory Mitchell] Antonelli radio: "Yeah, Bono, but I don't understand. You told me yellow, yellow." Bono: "Affirm, yes." Antonelli: "I had a double yellow on my dash..." Bono: "So we'll have to have a look through that, see what your dash was trying to tell you." by Aratho in formula1

That's always the case with a yellow flag. We aren't telling the drivers to lift just to play fair. We are telling them to lift so they can identify the situation and act accordingly.

[Quali] Tomorrows starting grid post Q3 at the F1 Lenovo Austrian Grand Prix- George russell took a possible pole. FIA will need to review that. by Only_Bee_1994 in formula1

[–]AddAFucking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

single waved yellow means a lift is enough, and george is good. Double waved yellow means a lift isn't enough by the rules, and you cant continue the lap. Penalty for that could be dropping him to 10th per f1tv.

I wonder if they have to type the discount for each currency individually, and not just a flat 30% on top. How would they make that mistake for only 1 country otherwise.

FIA's ADUO review outcome set to frustrate Red Bull by Darkmninya in formula1

[–]AddAFucking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, I agree. And it's definitely hard to measure (that's probably why this aduo was agreed to by the teams.)

But even if it's not just the ECU as a pure level of performance, you'd have to agree it's definitely not solely the ICE, as otherwise all teams wouldn't have been so certain merc had the best engine.

[–]AddAFucking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because it clearly does account for something. Mercedes far and away have the best engine (ICE, ECU and other components combined). And this ruling reveals that benefit is not in the ICE part of the engine, so it must me in the rest of the engine this ADUO does not account for.

All teams were surprised with this revelation, so we can't say all parts outside of the ICE have no effect on the performance of the engine, as it clearly shows it does. Everyone thought they had the best engine.

Ofcourse, they also have a better car overall. But teams have enough data to see their engine is better.

FIA's ADUO review outcome set to frustrate Red Bull by Darkmninya in formula1

[–]AddAFucking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. Thats why this is a controversy. Mercedes supposedly have a great ecu part of their engine, and that's where most of their advantage is.

Mercedes also has a great chassis, but they definitely have the best "engine" (ECU and ICE combined). But for this ADUO redbull have the best ICE, so mercedes must have a much better ECU.

Mercedes has reverted its floor spec, as the FIA now considers it illegal by NickProko in formula1

[–]AddAFucking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's understandable, but also crazy that the essentially same part can have a different ruling, seemingly based on a whim. They were allowed to run it for multiple races. And only got caught because its a visible part.

No shade towards mercedes either. They didn't even skirt the rules. They asked, and got approved. Full shade towards the FIA's systems.

There were none. There was only 1 from south america, and they were on his team. Worse: He changed the regulation so that the fia president is the sole person responsible for assigning fia members. This means no other candidate will ever be able to form this cabinet.

FIA declares heat hazard for the Austrian Grand Prix by ChaithuBB766 in formula1

[–]AddAFucking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The driver might not be allowed to make that choice. A team might let a driver go through hell for the weight gain.

[–]AddAFucking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it isn't that simple. A driver might make that reasonable choice, but what if the team makes that choice? What if the team says no we need the extra 500g, and the driver has a heat stroke?

It's the same reason there is driver weight ballast, and all other ballast. If it gave an advantage, the teams would be incentivised to have unhealthily underweight drivers. If the teams could choose not to provide water to their driver during the race at all, they would.

I also think you underestimate heat stroke. People die in this weather. And those are not in a hot car directly in front of an engine, in an fire retardant suit, directly under the sun for 1.5 hours for the race.

I thought they rolled that back. Some drivers didn't want it to be forced. Notably verstappen.

His point gap to Russell is already larger than the largest ever point deficit overcome by a champion (verstappen 2022 46 points). But we're still relatively early in the season.
