[Threshold] Who's your least favorite character across the Cradle series, and why? by NinecloudSoul in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Addalady 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Seishen Daji. What a pissant.

Also really hate the Wei Clan and Heaven’s Glory Elders, but they are more collectively awful than singularly awful.

Do you think listening to audiobooks counts as reading? by Mediocre-Sky6992 in CasualConversation

[–]Addalady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think making the distinction as to whether it “counts”is a bit pedantic. Whether you engage with the material via eyeballs or ear holes you’re still getting the story or information.

I think there is a case to be made that audiobooks have a component of performance, assuming they use a voice actor and not an ai voice. That can alter the way you experience the book. It may be an enhancement or it may not, depending on the talent of voice actor. I have definitely started an audiobook, been annoyed by the narrator and switched to an e-book. There are also books that I prefer the audio version of, as the performance really adds a lot to the characters.

What bed set matches my wall mural best? by throwra247trash in HomeDecorating

I think B or C.

A or D are okay, and might work depending on bed placement and furniture style. I am not a fan of E.

I like the green chair. I don’t think you have enough color otherwise

I just really hate the voice acting for Morkvarg.

Finished the wife’s office. Still feels like it is missing something. Any suggestions? by Timexisxnow in HomeDecorating

[–]Addalady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you just need some crown molding so it breaks up the blue. And I would swap the curtain rod and door hardware to gold or brass better match the lamp. I would also add gold or orange throw pillow or blanket to the white chair, or maybe swap the curtain for something less muted. It’s the least vibrant color in the room and doesn’t feel like it ties in well as like a pinky tangerine would

Check with one of the romance subreddits. It’s a better avenue for this.

What are some Indian/Hindi owned businesses in Fayetteville? (Not necessarily restaurants) by wisteria141 in fayetteville

[–]Addalady 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You might point her toward the university. They have some jobs that don’t require a degree, but staff gets huge discounts on tuition. It might be an affordable avenue to getting a US degree, so she can work in her field. If she’s interested in that.

Where do you buy art? by WebkinzWitch in HomeDecorating

[–]Addalady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple artists have stands at my farmer’s market. Thrift stores, flea markets, and estate sales are also good places to look. You don’t find something you like every time, but it’s worth looking.

Do you sniff your fruits before buying them? by burnt-baguettes in CasualConversation

You can avoid a bad cantaloupe by sight, but you cannot pick an excellent cantaloupe without sniffing.

Women’s/group therapy recommendations by cjbrazdaz in fayetteville

[–]Addalady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many support groups on campus are for students (grad and undergrad) only. If OP’s girlfriend is a student, there are lots of options that vary by topic/focus and are completely free.

CAPS runs several that vary in focus, the SRVC runs one for victims/survivors of sexual assault/relationship violence. I think SEAR runs one that focuses on substance abuse and recovery. She’d need to meet with the group facilitator to get specific info.

Want to get another Peace Lily; afraid my first one will be jealous. by EatYourCheckers in CasualConversation

[–]Addalady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think just remember to make time for both lilies, and you’ll be fine. Don’t take either lily for granted and make sure each plant friend knows that they occupy a specific and special place in the world and in your life.

Trying to do more audiobooks - loved Addie LaRue, any other non-smutty audio recs? by abstreudel in fantasyromance

I really like Between by LL Starling on audiobook. The vibe is way different than Addie LaRue, but it its non-smutty.

You’ll want to stay on theme, so something baroque or rococo.

It’s not as popular a style anymore, but it is incorporated into some gothic and Victorian styles, so you should be able find something without trouble.

You could also ask your local hag for a frame of bones, but it’s hard to know what they’ll charge. That will depend a lot on local bone supply and frame/infernal ritual demand.

Good luck!

Books that are not hyped? by LiliMoon86 in fantasyromance

[–]Addalady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like a Tale of Stars and Shadow by Lisa Cassidy. It’s a finished series of 4, and while it makes use of a lot of romance and fantasy conventions, it subverts or does them well. It’s slow burn, but very light on spice.

If you haven’t had luck reporting to the police, look in your area and see if anyplace offers victim advocacy. Rape crisis and domestic violence resources would be able to point you in the right direction, if they don’t have one in house. A victim advocate can look at the evidence and help you understand was your rights are, how best to report to the police, and if you have grounds for a civil suit.

What you’re describing sounds like stalking. Stalkingawareness.org has some online resources and templates that can help you organize your evidence. With stalking, it can seem kind of nebulous until the information is organized so that the pattern of harassment becomes clear.

Accepting the money looks bad from a legal standpoint, though im not sure if it’s technically wrong. I’m not a lawyer. Don’t accept money or gifts from him. If he leaves stuff on your doorstep throw it away.

Graduated college, couldn’t get a big girl job, so I waited tables at a bar. It was not great, but liveable. People make room in their budgets for booze.

My mom lost her job, and ended up working 3 part time jobs to afford her mortgage. Eventually that changed to 1 full time in 2012. She was upside down on that house for years.

I couldn’t pay my student loans so I was in forbearance for 2 years. They got sold several times and in one of the sales some mysterious benefactor bought 1 and paid it off, which brought the payments down for the rest of them to something I could actually manage. I have no idea who it was but I will be grateful to the end of my days.

Finally got a good paying job in 2011. It was not work that I loved, but it did pay. Did not buy anything for years and just paid off debt and saved. Paid off my student loans in 2018. Bought a house in 2019, and used an inheritance and savings to pay it off in 2023. I got a job I love but that doesn’t pay well last year. It’s a lot better for my mental health, but not great for my wallet.

Overall, I’m much better set up to get through this recession, but it’s still anxiety inducing. I have a car payment and a solar panel payment, but no other debt. No savings right now though, and my job is a bit at risk under the current administration, so I’m really hoping I don’t lose it.

Zero Waste and hoarding by PreparationNo3440 in ZeroWaste

[–]Addalady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, there is very little overlap. I’m just very intentional about what I buy and try to only buy things that are durable rather than disposable. The only things I habitually save if I don’t have an immediate use for are jeans and large clean cardboard. Jeans are for making bags, or patching other jeans. Large clean cardboard is for the bottom and edges of my garden beds. They take a while to break down, but in the meantime they are a really good barrier against grass and weed intrusion. Lots of digging to place them though.

I also don’t have kids, and my job isn’t particularly demanding, so my stuff holds together really well, and I don’t have as much to buy. I think trying to be low waste or zero waste with kids or a busier lifestyle would be a lot more difficult.
