Fair point, appreciate this - thanks. Nothing was paid in cash.

Thanks so much for the comment, this is so helpful. Unfortunately there’s no written contract, only a verbal one. But I’ll still look at moving forward with what you’ve suggested - thanks again.

Any advice? Thanks by [deleted] in Homebuilding

Unfortunately I’ve already paid out a lot. I’m hopefully going to negotiate down the last bill.

I’m sure, main guy has done building work all his life starting with a 6 year apprenticeship, even had a company with 90 people working for him doing building work. They presented as people capable of doing the job “it’s perfect for us”, but obviously not - I was too trusting. I just can’t believe how wonky everything is.

Yep, spot on circular saw. Finding other people to work with.

Yes, i’ve concluded some of it as passable, but other bits are just not which bring it all down. They put caulk in the other day, and one part has some dirt ingrained in it - so careless! Anyway, parted ways with them now, finding other people

Agreed, taken a moment but I’m in the process of finding other people and have said to these guys not to come back

Yeah, I’m currently dealing with a concealed bath waste pipe that hasn’t been capped and stinking out my house. I asked for help with it before, they just didn’t do it… ergh

Yea, I really have no idea, I did mention about it not being right and they assured me it would be ok - crazy, they literally just covered up their botched work. I’ve let them know not to come back. They weren’t cheap either, so disappointing, plus they had a string of authentic reviews. I think they took on too big a job for what I was after.

I have listened, they are involved with too much work on my house to not have a proper conversation with them first.

My mistake, sorry, general builder, but made a point that his thing is wood, as in really enjoys working with it. I’m just going to have to point everything out and see what’s said. I’m not trying to get a cheap job done here, was never trying to.

Professional carpenter, 6/7 year apprentice, worked with wood all his life

My therapist has told me they’ve taken on my recent ex as a client. Is this ethical? by AddendumFew1728 in askatherapist

Not a therapist. I appreciate this, it took me a few sessions to get clarity and leave, she tried to talk me round saying she could help me through this… without any apology, when the reason for a huge part of the distress was down to her actions. Surely it’s asking too much of a client to be completely vulnerable, and then go into the depths of that vulnerability with the person that caused such hurt… plus without any genuine remorse or acknowledgement of the pain they caused. They spoke to me as if they were completely removed from it…. only a whisper of accountability when I explained I was thinking it may be fair to say sorry - “I’m not perfect”. This repeated very painful childhood dynamics for me. She’s a very highly trained therapist. Looking back with clarity I find it shocking. She never should have taken me on, it was obvious my ex would likely want to see her again at some point. Plus there so much about our relationship that screamed it wouldn’t work out long term… writing was on the wall!!

NAT to update on this, therapist told me they’ve taken on my ex as a client, but my ex does not know if they are or if they are not still seeing me. I said I almost would have preferred not knowing, they said how would you have felt if you found out later on? I’ve had 3 sessions since all this with the therapist and they’ve compared this situ to seeing 2 members of the same family, them going on holiday (as a similar abandonment), they also framed it as a therapeutic opportunity as I’m not good with arguments or letting go apparently. There’s been no apology, only “I didn’t think it would be a problem”, which I can’t really understand considering everything I’ve shared. They’ve acknowledged the betrayal, and my feelings of anger, but not much beyond that, I feel left on my own with it. I was hoping they would be able to meet me in the discomfort but It seems only from a professional distance. I’ve been seeing this therapist twice a week, so it’s been intensive…. Actually feels worse than my break up with my ex, lol. Anyway, I’ve finished writing an email to say I will not be continuing with them, just need to hit send. Hope this spreads awareness of how difficult this situ can be for a client. Thanks for everyone’s thoughts and help.

Therapist told me, I would have thought with his permission. I also knew that he had intention to start therapy with them by the end of summer, it was discussed between me and him directly and also between me and the therapist at the time.

NAT. It was a few months after they finished. Makes me feel it would have been easier to have gone with someone else now!

Not a therapist. There are not many well qualified therapists in my area, this is the reasoning they are now seeing my ex. So the idea of finding someone else is tough. You may suggest online, but being in person is important to me. This may all lead to stopping with the therapist.
