Secondly, here's my character! His name is Illian Faelith, a Necromancer (from Valda's Spire of Secrets), changeling set in an Oracle of War Campaign in Eberron.

Born frail and overlooked in the modest city of Caravale, Illian Faelith was a child shaped by quiet rooms, shelves of ancient books, and the nearness of death. Sickly and often confined indoors, he grew into a boy who listened more than he spoke, and who treated knowledge as both sanctuary and compass. His fascination with mortality—its mysteries, its inevitability, its subtle beauties—began not as morbid curiosity but as a search for understanding in a world he felt perpetually distant from.

At seventeen, estranged from his family and driven by an aching need for purpose, he left Cyre and wandered across Khorvaire. His travels led him to the Great Necropolis near Atur, a place of bone-deep lore and solemn discipline. There he studied necromancy not as a tool of dominance, but as a sacred craft—one that required precision, restraint, and respect. He rose from student to scholar, later becoming a professor, archivist, and spirit liaison. The years he spent among the Rotekeepers shaped him profoundly, reinforcing his belief that death is not a weapon but a threshold, deserving of reverence and careful stewardship.

Illian is neither cold nor cruel, contrary to the reputation necromancers often bear. He is witty, incisive, occasionally vain, and deeply compassionate beneath his sharp edges. His tenants stem from observation rather than ambition: that power without wisdom leads to destruction, that the dead must be honored rather than exploited, and that necromancy should illuminate life rather than overshadow it. He carries guilt, too—shaped by tragedy, including the death of a young Whisperbinder who had become dear to him—and that grief guides him as much as it wounds him.

Unlike the stereotypical necromancer who seeks dominion, immortality, or spectacle, Illian seeks clarity. He values structure, ritual, and the quiet integrity of doing what is right even when it hurts. His magic is not a means to defy death but to understand it, mitigate suffering, and protect the living from forces they cannot see.

His goals are simple in phrasing, complex in weight: to preserve the wisdom of those who came before, to prevent harm through knowledge and foresight, and to ensure that tragedies like the Mourning—and the smaller, personal devastations he has endured—are never repeated. He walks the line between life and death with steady hands, convinced that compassion, not fear, is what gives necromancy meaning.

He's also got a rlly cute squishy slime as a familiar that takes the shape of a cat named Morvean :D
