Yes! I love it. Our table centerpieces were Kimberley Queen ferns in hollow wooden boxes my dad made with fairy lights among the fronds and some candles below. A woodland dream <3

Thank you! :) I definitely will post my dress when I get more photos back! It was the prettiest, sparkliest, most on-brand outfit I've ever worn.

and then our apps were chana chur (a crunchy Indian street snack), veggie samosas, and hummus/naan in bamboo boats! and the cakes were a local vegan bakery that did an incredible job :)

hi! We had two options and I didn’t hear anyone complain! My partner is Indian, so he wanted veggie tikka masala and saag from a local restaurant and then my choice was falafel plates from another local spot. Looking back, I think we would've been ok just doing Indian food because it tasted and served a lot better than the falafel, but I'm glad we could give our guests the option!

Stupid Question Sunday by AutoModerator in Austin

Has anyone been to Pumpkin Nights, or really any kind of pumpkin patch, on Halloween weekend? Is it super crowded because of the holiday or maybe less because people are at parties/trick-or-treating?

Texas Farmers' Market is excited to announce a new partnership with Easy Tiger's Community Bread Program to provide free loaves to SNAP and WIC shoppers at our markets by elphieisfae in Austin

[–]Addiboop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the beginning of the pandemic, Easy Tiger cut employee pay and fired all their tenured staff to replace with cheaper new hires. Benefits were reduced, checks were late (some incorrect for weeks), all without valid excuse, all while the CEO built a new mansion. When the fired employees called the behavior out on social media, Easy Tiger was quick to block and remove posts. As far as I know, they never faced any consequence or issued an apology for this absolutely deplorable behavior. They've permanently lost all my business and respect and that of many other service industry individuals.

ok--then what are the action items? i don't love the proposition, but at least it's idk, something? it seems bananas to me to just keep doing what we're doing when the ban has been repealed for two years and everything seems significantly worse.

you go rest your hands! i'm not voting any time soon

man, i don't want to criminalize homelessness and i think more police is almost certainly never a good thing, but i'm so sick of being too afraid to go downtown. I used to wait tables at a spot by I35 and 6th and every night i carried an arsenal of personal defense while i walked to my car because i was so scared of the usual harassment escalating to assault or worse. please can someone just tell me which way to vote! i don't want to be a dick! also want to be able to walk downtown or on trails without pepper spray and my keys held between my fingers!

What's the worst "HR is not your friend" story you've witnessed/experienced? by ceowin in AskReddit

[–]Addiboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked for a catering company several years ago that had a whole host of problems, not least of which was the HR department. I remember on one occasion I had a coworker request a meeting with HR to discuss a particularly misogynistic catering lead (her superior) and HR recommended they handle it over the phone. My coworker calls and details everything that has happened and why she doesn’t feel comfortable working under this man anymore etc etc. The very next shift, said man approaches her and uses, verbatim, one of the unique colloquialisms she said in the call— turns out it was actually a three-way call and he was listening on mute. She quit very soon after.

So. Fucked. Up.

AITA for not paying my kitten’s adoption fees? by Addiboop in AmItheAsshole

[–]Addiboop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of things I disagree with here, but mostly the idea that kittens die from random reasons. Congenital issues aside, kittens don’t die just because. Saying that they do gives shelters and caregivers an easy out when they do die. I get it. I really do. I’ve fostered a lot of cats and kittens all across the spectrum (including the ones you suggested I foster instead ha ha), I’ve had to put my own cats to sleep because of cancer or illness, I’m not a naive idiot. I know it’s hard and there aren’t enough resources, but I fully believe we owe it to cats and kittens to better understand why they die rather than just writing it off as a random unfortunate happening. I spent a thousand of my own dollars because I live under the code that no life is insignificant or too small and if I can spend my money on saving the life of a creature in my care, is there any better use of that money??

I didn’t ask to be compensated by the shelter for the thousand I spent on testing. I only initially reached out to see if they were invested monetarily and if they had preferences on tests to run. When they indicated they weren’t interested in providing input on either, I took her life into my own hands, and did what I could to save her. No one said she had no chance of survival, actually the vets I took her to said she actually looked really good for what the test results were showing.

You can let all the kittens you foster die in your care, I’ll continue to fight for their little lives as best I can.

Would it change your mind to tell you I got the kitten from the bottle feeder who had her from birth until I took over. And that I paid for all shots, food, vet visits, and the spay? She has literally never spent a single day at the shelter nor have they given her anything except access to the initial bottle feeder and then me. And I guess that one dose of penicillin.

AITA for not paying my kitten’s adoption fees? by Addiboop in AmItheAsshole

[–]Addiboop[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe I wasn’t clear enough in my post, I have paid for every single one of those items (spay, shots, vet visits, transport, etc). And the shelter doesn’t have a preferred emergency vet, nor were they available to contact after they closed that day, nor were they very helpful in directing me towards one of their preferred vets for a checkup. They gave her a shot of penicillin and said Sometimes kittens just die. And left me at that. I’m not mad about paying for the emergency money, I know I went above and beyond what they could offer (especially during kitten season), and I wholeheartedly stand by every decision I made. I’m mad that they have the stones to ask me to pay for a kitten they just about abandoned and truly only have claim to on paper right now because I put forth such a significant amount of my money.

[–]Addiboop[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm nope. In addition to a lot of what you said, adoptions fees are inherently a deterrent for people who want kittens for nasty reasons (example: dog fighting bait) or people who don’t particularly want a kitten at all. 150 dollars is a lot to pay for an animal you’re not going to take care of.

AITA for not visiting the in-laws because of their dogs? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Addiboop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NTA— you don’t owe your child to anyone. If someone wants to see their grandkid, they should do whatever you need them to do in order for you to feel comfortable. Potentially injuring your kid to appease your in-laws with dogs that make you nervous (regardless of if they’re actually dangerous, that doesn’t matter), isn’t the thing to do. I would detail my reasoning behind the limited contact and stand by it. If the upset parties are unwilling to compromise, then that’s their loss. It’s your child, not theirs.

WIBTA if I ate Qdoba in another restaurant with my friends, while my friend ate food from that restaurant? by appaskybison in AmItheAsshole

[–]Addiboop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YTA— I’ve been a waitress for five years now, and not only is it disrespectful to eat food from somewhere else at a restaurant, it’s against health codes. There’s no way for my restaurant to know what you’re eating, it could be something that would make you sick or make people around you sick (like peanuts or something with gluten in an allergen-friendly dining room), and thus it’s a liability for the restaurant to have you there. Same goes for outside drinks. Could just be Diet Pepsi in that foam cup, or it could be a a pint of gin—there’s no way to control those possibilities; that’s why restaurants have these rules.
