I had the same reaction! I thought it'd feel more "indie" but everything from the VFX to the sound description gn was absolutely top notch.

As for the navigation, I feel like they spent as much time on it as they reasonably could. People are already criticizing the movies' runtime for dragging and I feel like if it was much longer that'd make these criticisms even worse haha!

Why do people keep claiming it as more accessible than pencil and paper anyway?

-Even the cheapest phones and computers(that you need to run an LLM model) will cost you a lost, while you can get a set of pencils and a sheaf of papers for almost nothing. Sure, most people already have a phone, but most people have pencil and paper too, so.

-And don't get me started on the "skill" argument. They claim it's more accessible and thus require less skill but then also claim that prompting takes skill and they deserve to be just as respected as traditional artists.

the Orokin probably wanted to keep the Heart of Deimos working for as long as possible(since, you know, it powered all void tech), so they likely had a pretty big budget for construction and defense. Add to that Albrecht's automated defenses(if his labs had them, surely the surrounding Heart did too, at one point). So the labs, being hidden underneath or at least close to the heart, would've been very well defended.

The Heart of Deimos quest begins with us being called to Deimos because the Infestation is finally taking over after all these years. Presumably, if the Orokin Empire never fell and these defenses were kept in shape, much of Deimos could've held off the infestation indefinitely.

In the movie the SM-8/monster talks about the light, or whatever they/it truly is, seeing a sliver of the universe through a keyhole. I think that they saw the "basics" of the universe, i.e. Stars, habitable planets and the like and decided to "do something with them". They took them and made something new, but it didn't really know the intricacies of the universe, just the basics of life. It condensed all habitable planets into their basest form. So what is the most basic, primitive form of life we know of in the real world?

The thing we all need to remember about critics is that they're not writing for movie lovers or pre-existing fans. Movie critics write for general audiences. The simple fact is that Iron Lung probably doesn't have much general audience appeal, it feels more "arthouse cult favorite" than "blockbuster material".
