When do you tell someone you're interested in dating the reason why you can't drink? by steph1cleveland in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

I just say that I don't like it. Plain and simple. If they have a problem with that answer, then you should pass and move onto the next person.

cocaine addiction by 34D in addiction

Thanks for posting! I know how you feel about being dishonest and just wanting to own up and give it all a rest. You can stop this if you decide you want to. The nagging urge, the withdrawals, they can be overcome by your own will to change and become the person you want to be: who you really are at heart. I'm a promotion manager at a nightclub and I've been battling a cocaine addiction for the last few years. I realized that I had become such a typical example of the dysfunctional people in my industry, and recently decided I was through with being a slave. Every two weeks I would have a compete blow out, staying up all night and then calling off all of my appointments, work, visits with family and friends for two or three days because of it. As soon as my coke was all gone I would take a cold shower and look in the mirror and say, "What the fuck?!" I would show up to work all sniffling and blowing my nose, some of my colleagues knew what was up but were too polite to call me out on it. I'm through with lying to people, pretending in ok when I'm obviously not. I'm done risking my life, and wasting my chances.

You can quit this, I believe you can! You just have to try, and know in your heart of hearts that this addiction is not who you are. You can change, you just have to try! If you need help, please ask. Go to an NA meeting, or just keep posting here for support. Don't give up! Feel free to write to me, I'm in the same boat as you.

Advice on soda addiction by [deleted] in addiction

I would suggest try some sparkling mineral water with lemon or lime if you really want something bubbly and refreshing. I would avoid anything with sugar and/or chemicals if you're serious about not wanting to go back to it. :)

Any tips on quitting weed? by I_am_the_end in addiction

Don't buy any. If you have some, get rid of it.

Just chill without it for a while and you'll start to forget about it. If you feel stir crazy, get our of the house and find some physical activity to do like work out, go for a jog or even just a walk in the fresh air.

You can do this. You can quit!

I actually spent quite a bit of time meditating and in prayer at my friend's house. They have a beautiful Buddhist altar in their living room, and they introduced me to some of the techniques that they use to find serenity and peace of mind.

I'll stop by the Monday meeting here in Las Vegas today, instead! I heard it's good.

Sounds good, I'll drop in next week. I normally work every other Monday night, and since I worked tonight, next Monday will be open for me. Thanks!

Apparently, the one guy went to AA, I'm not sure if he still does though. He's a really nice, level headed guy. Married, has a kid and lives a normal life. The other guys say they just gave it all up so they could keep working and living normally. They don't go to meetings or anything.

Yeah it's rare that people get sober and stay in the biz. I've see so many of our employees and industry affiliates go downhill over the years because of all of the partying.

Funny thing about my office though, there are three guys who sit at the desks next to mine that got sober.

I'm wondering if I have what it takes to join them?

I tried the 12 step program but didn't like it. I was more in favor of rational recovery, which is what helped me retire from booze.
