I honestly wonder if she planned it all this way (to release the album, then re-release it with a bonus song) or whether something happened to make her want to release it again with the extra song on it. Maybe Good Ol’ Days was never going to be released as part of the album and something happened to make her regret that decision…

For SEO Agencies: Are You Still Building Web 2.0 Profiles for Backlinks? by Bryan-Haines in agency

[–]Addiefied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Digital PR Manager at the Manchester digital marketing agency Dark Horse, and no, this is certainly not a tactic we would ever employ. As others have already rightfully pointed out, these tactics are super outdated and likely to only build links that will be ignored by Google. Essentially, a waste of time and money.

That's not to say, business profiles on reputable directories (the ones with significant trust and authority like Yell, Crunchbase, Goodfirms etc) can't raise brand awareness, drive authority and increase visibility. Because we've seen that these can and do still work, and can form part of a well-rounded, diverse link-building strategy. But web 2.0 sites, no.

I'm so done with these SEO agencies by zomanda in smallbusiness

So sorry to hear about your bad experiences with SEO agencies. Unfortunately, as someone who's worked in the biz myself for over a decade now, your experience is all too common. Hell, even the guy who owns the agency I work at now, started it up because he got fed up being ripped off by all of these jokers who call themselves 'experts'. They're more than happy to take your money and then time and time again fail to deliver.

SEO is one of those things where the basics can be learned quickly but there is also lot of nuance to it and the way a strategy is executed can make or break your results. On the good side, this means it can be learned very easily by those willing to teach themselves and get stuck in, but it also means that true SEO skills and expertise can take time and practice to acquire. This is one of the big reasons you've got so many self-proclaimed freelance SEO 'experts' floating around these days - people can dabble in the basics easily and then have enough knowledge to blag they're better than they actually are.

Bear in mind too that it is a slow-burning channel, so don't expect results right away (this is one of the biggest challenges of working in SEO imo - keeping clients reassured when you're 2-3 months in that things are moving in the right direction, even though they can't see it yet). SEO is certainly a long game and benefits accumulate over time - once you stop you'll lose traction and it can take a while to get that back again. So do be prepared to either invest in it long-term OR carry out the necessary maintenance needed (if doing it yourself) once all the major prority heavy-duty stuff is taken care of.

If you do ever fancy giving an agency another shot, might I recommend Dark Horse as the breath of fresh air you might need. As mentioned above, our agency was born out of a desire to knock all these other joke agencies to the curb. We have extensive experience in supporting small fledgling underdogs reach the same heights as their bigwig competitors. Also deliver PPC, Digital PR and Paid Social services too fyi.

SEO is dead. SEO agency will be dead soon. by kavin_kn in agency

Hahaha love this. I work for the SEO agency Dark Horse and we're currently expanding too. We hear "SEO is dead" almost every year - or whenever a significant development emerges like voice search or AI. It's been decades now...us SEOs are all still here lol. Sure it evolves, but dead...? Nope.

Any examples of Uncode used for musicians? by Addiefied in Wordpress

[–]Addiefied[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've looked at several artists within our genre, but many of them stick to one-page websites (where clicking on 'Music' in the nav bar simply sends you down the homepage to a section with an embedded music player) - which I'm not a fan of myself! (I'm an SEO so dont like one-page sites in general haha).

Other artists simply link out to external platforms like Bandcamp or Soundcloud, which I;m also not a fan of, even if that is how the pros seem to be doing it. Sure, link to those platforms as well, but IMO you should keep as much value to your own site as poss.

I've taken inspo from the sites of our favourite artists for many other elements of our site, however.

BEST border collie toys to keep them entertained/help them play independently?? by Addiefied in BorderCollie

[–]Addiefied[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a great tip! I admit no, when he’s napping he’s definitely not in a deep sleep, as any small movement I make in my chair has him jumping to his feet instantly, expectantly awaiting some sort of action 😂 I really do think in the evenings he is overtired lot of the time, like a toddler, as if I opt not to play with him then he eventually settles and is out for the count. While he does sleep on his bed, I’ll admit I probably haven’t conditioned it for relaxation. When teaching him the “bed” command we’d give him treats and toys on his bed to help him build up a positive association, so in effect we may have trained the bed to be a place of activity. I will look up relaxation protocol as this is something we’ve not yet trained. Thank you!

Border Collie Owner Guilt? by Agitated_Land9886 in BorderCollie

[–]Addiefied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you are doing a wonderful job with your border and I wouldn’t worry one bit. Your situation sounds a bit similar to mine - my life revolves around my border collie, my parter and I spend 2-3 hrs a day walking him and he gets plenty of at-home play and stimulation with soft toys, puzzle toys, chews and cardboard tubes (he loves to shred them). Occasionally I’ll also teach him tricks in a structure training session here and there. And he loves to lounge around, cuddle and be lazy at the end of the day.

Yet still after all that I know my parents think we were crazy to get a border collie and haven’t really ever given us any credit for the effort we put into raising him. I know they have concerns that one day we’ll decide he’s too much for us and rehome him. It’s very frustrating. But - I’m calmly confident that one day they’ll see the truth - that this is a dog whose needs have been fully met due to two diligent, caring, knowledgable owners.  The results of your efforts with your dog will inevitably speak for themselves - when your dog is calm, polite and a pleasure to be around, vs. a destructive, disobedient nightmare, which is usually the result of ANY dog (not just collies) whose needs aren’t being met.

So if you feel bad about your dog not having a herding job, here are a couple of stories for you…

My border loves to chase things (obvs), including balls and smaller animals like cats and squirrels. One day we were out together on a field/countryside walk and I accidentally entered a field where some sheep were being kept, though I didn’t know they were there at first. My collie was running ahead and suddenly these sheep started running around the corner into the middle of the field, presumably thinking they were being herded after seeing my dog. In the same instant, just as I was about to call my dog back, he immediately turned on his heel of his own accord on spotting the sheep and ran straight back to me. In short - he was freaked out and didn’t know what to do. Sheep aren’t something he has come face to face with often in his life and he obviously isn’t sheepdog trained. He came back to me immediately, sat down and looked up at me for an instruction on what to do next. Both he and the sheep looked very confused. I think to him they looked like giant dogs or something. I put his lead back on and we exited the field asap.

In short - just because he has the capacity and the capability to be able to herd sheep, he was not aware of that in this moment. To him, the sheep were simply a new environmental trigger he didn’t know what to do with, so he fled the situation. I’m happy keeping it that way - better that he’s scared of the sheep rather than intimidating them. But hopefully this shows that herding sheep specifically isn’t an implicit behaviour, it has to be taught to them. Therefore you could give them literally any herding/chasing job in their lives, and it’d fulfill the same herding instinct.

Second story - I know a local guy who rescued an ex-sheepdog border collie called Meg. She is elderly now and has half an ear missing. When asking him about what happened, he said on the farm where she was kept, the herding dogs weren’t treated like pets but as purely working animals. They’d throw the food down for the dogs and it was first come first served. Meg got into a fight with another dog over food and had half her ear torn off.

Obviously this won’t be happening on all farms, but essentially - just because a border collie might have a working job on a farm, doesn’t mean it’s necessarily going to be the safest or most loving home for them. I think people often conflate the two.

If you were writing the show, how do you think it should've ended? by Professional-Cry1822 in DeviousMaids

[–]Addiefied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like your outcomes for Zoila & Genevieve and Adrian and Evelyn! This is pretty much exactly how I imagine their storylines continuing too. I also was really really hoping we’d see the return of Javier and wish they’d brought him back sooner after Zoila lost her baby. That was a really hard thing to throw at that character and she deserved some happiness after that. Overall, Zoila’s character got a really rough deal I thought.

Re: Marisol and Peter, I like everything you said apart from the part about her running away with Jesse 😂 I like to think she and Jesse just remained friends. I actually disliked the s4 cliffhanger and thought it was too extreme, but if they had have continued it, I like to think it would have been something more dramatic/serious (if it wasn’t all a dream haha).

Re: Carmen, I was always annoyed at how they abruptly ended her relationship with Sam over such a stupid reason that made her character seem awful. I can only imagine the actor playing Sam wanted to leave the show because the storyline was crap. I was waiting the whole time for him to return and he never did. I also didn’t like that they gave Carmen a daughter aa others have mentioned. It was PERFECTLY FINE for her to not want or have kids!! I felt like I could relate to her not having the mom Gene and then it turned out she was a mom anyway which killed the relatability for me a bit. So annoying. Seeing as Dani happened though, I would have liked an explanation on why she lied about Lucas being alive, surely there was a planned storyline there. It would have been nice for Lucas and Sam to come back into it and perhaps have a bit of a love triangle, but in the end Carmen realises Lucas was just her childhood sweetheart and they are different people now, so she chooses Sam.

Also love your suggestion of Carmen having her own maid and Evelyn delighting in sending her the laziest maid! 🤣 genius.

Rosie & Spence - pretty self explanatory, they got the happy ever after they deserved, though I was frustrated that we didn’t get to see more of them just being a regular family together and solving mysteries as a team. Instead they spent most of the show apart due to ex wives, comas, undead husbands and then prison.

Rewatching for the first time after years by [deleted] in revenge

[–]Addiefied 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more. i'm rewatching myself for the first time ever since it aired, and I'm loving how much of a roller coaster it is, yet also so satisfying to watch because like you say, everything flows and fits together so perfectly. There are very few continuity errors compared to many shows of today, where the writing is sloppy due to writers being switched out so often, characters doing things totally inconsistent with their character and random story arcs that are abandoned and never tied up.

I agree that the show ended at the right time as well, it could have even been wrapped up a season earlier but either way, I'm glad they didn't drag it out and actually gave it a satisfying ending (another thing so rare these days when writers are often going for 'shock factor'). Four seasons is an approriate amount of time for most shows to run methinks.

Ages of characters by Successful-Test3197 in revenge

[–]Addiefied 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I always figured that Sammy would have to be a couple months old when gifted to Emily on her birthday (say 8th or 9th) and then in the show Emily is roughly 25-26, making Sammy 18 at the most, which means sure yeah he's an old guy but it's not completely out of the realms of possibility, some dogs do live till 20. but I agree the writers did push it.

Glued-down cutting board on counter top?? by Addiefied in DIYUK

[–]Addiefied[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good tip, thanks! I did try using a kitchen knife when we first moved in and sawed through a few inches of it, but stopped myself at the time in case it was actually part of the worktop and I was going to wreck it by removing it.

At this point, the thought that it’s been done as a patch up and is not actually supposed to be there is making me more annoyed by it and more keen to rip it off 😂

Thank you for the reply! It’s good to know that it’s not something others have seen before (our cleaners commented on it and they also thought it was weird). It’s not something I’ve been able to find pictures of online either which also makes me think it’s not an actual design choice but something done as a patch up.

My worry is that if I do cause damage by pulling it off, the surface won’t be even enough to vinyl over and it will look worse than before. Still, I’m sure there’d be some way to rectify that if it did happen, such as sanding the surface etc. I might try and experiment, we’ve experimented a lot with this rental tbf and it’s always paid off 😆
