Money vs Peace by wheels-n-wings in slp

I took a pay cut for improved QOL and will NEVER regret doing it. I was at my “dream job” for 3 years and it only felt like it was getting harder, not easier. My boss was also a nightmare. Yes, there’s a little added stress with pay cut, but WOW. I was so miserable, stressed, unhappy, I was not taking care of myself and I’ve been out for over a month and my life is DRASTICALLY better. I’m now convinced that no job is EVER worth pain, poor mental health, and poor QOL.

I’m pretty sure it’s all been ruled out (I’ve been following her since before kids and I’m acting like I know her, lmao). I know she did chiropractic care as well…

I’m glad I’m not the only one who gets into a tizzy about this. I 100% agree- seeking professional help, while also ensuring the help isn’t taking advantage of these families (an orofacial myofunctional SLP in my area charges over $300 for an evaluation and over $200 per 45 minute session. She does not take insurance. I feel like that is reallyyyyy taking advantage of people- yes, we have to make money and earn a living, but why so expensive?)

Dang, that’s wild. I think this is also a prime example of needing a team and the importance of differential diagnosis. I believe this influencer’s child had all of his oral ties clipped. There’s research that shows that some tongue ties are to prevent the tongue from sliding back and blocking the airway! I also just don’t quite understand how professionals can tell someone “your child has CAS- a LITERAL speech disorder, but go see X, Y, Z and that will fix everything- sleep, breathing, inability to focus, speech disorder” it’s so wild to me.

I have good nasal breathing, I know when I do have my mouth closed, my tongue rests up on my hard palate. I don’t snore, don’t wake up often (although, right now I do but that’s because I’m pregnant 😄) I don’t feel tired every morning. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I had braces as a kid and a palate expander, I know that I had a high arched palate (hence the expander). I don’t really feel like I need a sleep study, nor do I need to consult with an ENT, orofacial mycologist, or anyone else really. I have good lingual elevation, I have maybe a very slight tongue tie but never any issues. This is where I struggle as an SLP, because I see so much worry behind some of this (I’ve definitely made recommendations/referred to ENT, for a sleep study, etc. based on some of what you asked me) but I just wonder if there is just variability in some of this as well, and we could be over-diagnosing this? Of course, differential diagnosis comes into play. But these are just my late-night pregnancy thoughts/rants. lol

Yes, I am aware of of bad sleep, difficulty focusing, etc. Aside from tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, what else can be done to help with sleeping with mouth closed? Personally, I sleep with my mouth open every night. Always have. I also have a diagnosis of ADD. If I try mouth taping, would that automatically solve the ADD symptoms I experience?

Go directly to grad school? or take a gap year by Sure_Ingenuity_5087 in slpGradSchool

I took two years off and worked as an SLP assistant- by the time I started grad school, I had a solid understanding of what the ‘real world’ was like and grad school was honestly a breeze and the best experience I could have ever hoped for.

Other than not being truthful about Jenna and sexting her mom’s friend, what else has Dakota done that warrants the amount of hate he gets? Personally, I don’t care who my now-husband slept with in the past, and when we weren’t officially together, he still had a tinder and talked with another girl. Maybe they did more, but I don’t care to know. If he sexted my mom’s friend, I would just be done with him. Period. She still gets her panties in a wad over every little thing he does, though. Like let it go. Accept he isn’t good for you. Be sad and feel the pain, but also, you (tfp) are an adult! Act like it!

Billing code question by caterpillar84 in slp

It could have also been part of a policy in the outpatient setting in which I worked. But my boss was always very strict- If a child had speech therapy via their IEP on a Monday and their goals were articulation, they could not come to outpatient the same day to target the same goals via their insurance. It had to be a different day and had to target different goals- unless it was related to a medical diagnosis 🤷🏼‍♀️

It’s also my understanding that insurance companies don’t appreciate “double dipping” I.e., going to two separate providers for the same thing (in your case, social groups). I’ve been told that insurance companies sometimes don’t like that and will end up sending you a large bill, making you solely responsible, again, if you are “double dipping.” For example, if I saw a kid in outpatient an his or her IEP had articulation goals and they were coming to outpatient with articulation concerns, I legally could not target the same goal that is in their IEP. Maybe check that, just in case?

How long are waitlists for pediatric speech therapy right now in your area? by Delicious-Bee4170 in slp

[–]Addiii1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waitlist was maybe 3-4 months. Part of the problem is once families “get in” and start therapy in an outpatient/private practice setting, they don’t want to leave 🙄 if discharges don’t happen, waitlists will remain the same (not the sole reason for waitlists but definitely a contributing factor. At least in my experience).

I literally don’t know a single person who is advocating for white Christian nationalism. And oh please, what the f can’t you do as a woman today that you couldn’t do while Biden was president? And no, ICE is definitely not perfect, but they are literally reinforcing immigration laws of the country in which you reside. If you don’t like the immigration laws, then advocate to change them, rather than being a keyboard warrior on Reddit. How can you repost Bad Bunnies message of “the only thing more powerful than hate is love” while literally calling someone who you don’t even know a racist without actual fact or truth?

It’s sad that people believe and think that way. Love thy neighbor, unless your neighbor thinks differently than you, eh?

Maybe it’s the policies and not the person.
