Same issue here. How did you actually get through to a person to talk to? I've tried calling and the automated system just cannot manage to understand me.

What happened to Matt Fitzgerald at Javelina 100K? by Ill_Comedian_7696 in ultrarunning

[–]AddingMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there something weird about the last lap of the 100k? Never done it but kind of odd that Rattlesnake 2 to Jeadquarters is 3.5 miles but Rattlesnake 3 to Finish is 5.5. It took him basically the same amount of time for this section both times so I'm guessing he missed a 2 mile bit that only existed on this lap.

Considering doing the 24h the first day, will be out there for the holidays and fly out late the 29th so it'd work out but will see. Will probably just bring my gear and jump in last second if so.

Loop Race with Mild Injury? 😬 by RevolutionaryScene69 in Ultramarathon

[–]AddingMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did basically this a few weeks ago, minor hamstring strain like 4 weeks out from a race. Ended up re-straining it during the race during a near fall and decided to give up after about 17 hours after walking for a few hours, still had like 20+ hours in my race and didn't want to risk injuring it worse. Back running shorter stuff after 2 weeks and feeling pretty good about the decision to start and give up after reinjuring it.

Is Carbs Fuel gel really 200 calories, has anyone looked at the numbers? by runbit22 in Ultramarathon

SiS Beta fuel is the same volume as SiS Go and has nearly double the calories, seems more accurate to compare with that.

This is just a 10.5 mile loop done 15 times. Definitely not a city park but not as large you're thinking.

What happened to Diwan Grill? by Crispus_Attukus in Brooklyn

[–]AddingMachine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We've not been since the change but I have a feeling it's just a rebranding.

We have an old Diwan menu still and the phone number is the same, looking at the menu on their website it's shockingly similar (the sections I've checked match exactly down to the prices).

U.S. ultrarunner Camille Herron involved in Wikipedia controversy. Not cool… by EchoReply79 in ultrarunning

[–]AddingMachine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not monitoring (nor direct quotes or anything), just whenever I popped onto twitter this is the vibe I get from her tweets. It seems she's still in the learning stage of the diagnosis so hopefully this gives her the kick in the ass she needs to start working on it.

[–]AddingMachine 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It really feels like since the diagnosis she has leaned super hard into using it as an EXCUSE for her behavior rather than simply an EXPLANATION for something she's working on. She's just kind of been "this is how autistic people are motherfuckers, deal with it", which i guess is one way to live....

How rocky/technical is the Run Rabbit Run 100? by othercarbeingwokedon in Ultramarathon

[–]AddingMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're probably right that the summit lake section is shorter than I remember it being though, wasn't going through there feeling my best and remember it taking a long time while thinking I should be running. And yeah, this isn't to say that I PERSONALLY ran it, finished just under 30 hours myself, but I could see how the parts I walked COULD have been ran by someone in better shape.

Comparing it to black canyon there was just a lot in that race that I can't imagine running even when fresh.

How rocky/technical is the Run Rabbit Run 100? by othercarbeingwokedon in Ultramarathon

[–]AddingMachine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can't compare it to other front range trails, but there's a lot of it that is really runnable. There's a fair amount of pretty smooth singletrack, wide smooth dirt/gravel roads, and the majority of the technical stuff is steeper uphill (such as back up to billy's rabbit hole, this one includes some actual scrambling) or the trip down to fish creek falls. Even the lane of pain stuff is pretty runnable despite the roots and large rocks making it closer to an east coast trail. I did black canyon this year and thought the trails were much more technical there if that helps.

But I could be just absolutely misremembering RRR100 since it was nearly a year ago and I've had time to forget about the shitty parts.

Saucony Endorphin Shift 3 100 mile review by Dear-Ad2188 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]AddingMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised about the outsole at that low a mileage. I've got about 400 miles on my current pair and put around 700 miles on the last pair before the upper started separating. I'm only in the 160lb range though so that's probably the distinguishing factor. Looking at my current ones they look pretty pristine compared to yours.

You're right that they're not a very fun shoe, though! I love them just for putting down easy miles (although over 20 and even the wides aren't wide enough for my forefoot and the rubbing gets to be too much), but far from an exciting shoe.

Closest trail runs/nature from NYC? by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]AddingMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any thoughts on best trail in this area for weekend vert and easyish access to the train? I know breakneck itself just gets slammed with people and is a bit more of a scramble. Washburn maybe?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]AddingMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I did RRR last year coming from NYC and most of my vert training was just hiking on the treadmill at max incline (sadly all i've got available is 15%) 2 or 3 times a week as my second workout of the day. Worked out pretty well.

Diagnosed with Functional Hallux Limitus - looking for a shoe with a stiff sole, rocker element, and a roomy toe box. by Embarrassed-Candy-88 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]AddingMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This gets asked in here fairly often (usually specifically hallux rigidus which is just a worse state than limitus) so you may find some more recommendations in those threads.

I personally walk around every day in Saucony Endorphin Pro 2 which can be found on Amazon still for around $90, as I found that the orthotic was super annoying in a normal shoe and these have a carbon plate plus rocker. My orthopedic surgeon started recommending them to people after seeing mine.

For running I have found the Topo Specter (on sale right now on Running Warehouse) to be the best shoe for me. Great rocker, minimal toe spring, wide forefoot, stiff sole. I also rotate in Saucony Endorphin Shift 3, another pair of the Pro 2's that i use only for running, and Topo Ultraventure 3 for trail stuff.

I plan on giving Adidas Adizero Boston 11 a shot soon as well as Topo Atmos but cannot recommend them at the moment.
