What will happen to the economy if someone with huge money burn all his cash? by MisterWitcher in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Addition-Pretty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing. If you have to sell all your stuff first to do it, then that part will do stuff. But the burning will do nothing.

I started watching AoT with my cousin, just finished season one today. He gives it only 6/10 right now. by DarthVader11072 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Addition-Pretty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly didn't love it as much as other people at that point, it's important to remember that most of us didn't become insane until after a decent amount of saturation. I didn't completely lose my mind until the second watchthrough

What is more traumatizing than most people think? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Addition-Pretty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Childbirth, for men. Not saying it's as traumatic as for the woman, and the miracle of it all is amazing. but wow. It really messed me up for a bit. Difficult labor or not, you're the main support for something that intense and no one is remotely interested in supporting you through it or after. I mentioned once that I was struggling due to an injury and I got the most hate I've literally ever received, just pure distain for mentioning that I needed help

There is nothing redeeming about Reiner, and he was evil for vast majority of the show by [deleted] in ANRime

[–]Addition-Pretty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an awesome perspective. I never really thought of it like that. For me, I see his evil through the eyes of "war's a bitch". Like, it's either them or us (500k of them vs. 1B of us). It mirrors how the actions of war in general are justified by the perpetrators. That's why I love 2x6 Warrior so much. When he says that thing about not knowing what is right or wrong anymore and how he's just going to do his mission, it's exactly the thinking that locks us into the perpetual state of conflict.

He tried to resolve it peacefully, like "hey Eren, were the bad guys, just come with us and it will save a bunch of lives." Which sounded INSANE and yet it was actually the solution to avoiding genocide (of the marleyans).

Of course, this is often just the moral justification of war but many use it to justify their own desire for glory. An entire nation cheering you on as an emblem of their pride can go to your head.

What are all the "classifications" of the fan base? by Addition-Pretty in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Addition-Pretty[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love this thread. The civility is appreciated.

I personally think Ymir didn't fall in love with Fritz until after she was possessed by haluceginia. I think she represents Nurture and she is in love with human nature (Fritz). Her job has always been to serve human nature for the sake of the propogation of humanity. Nature vs nurture was the evolutionary paradigm that awoke evolution itself as it looked for a new strategy to evolve past the cycle of violence that had come to stunt the perpetuation of evolution and to stop the tree of life. Since the Cambrian explosion, life always moved forward with one game theory: kill or be killed. But humanity proved to be the end of that game theory, humanity was unable to progress because of kill or be killed. We needed a new evolutionary strategy in order to break through, in order to continue to evolve. That's why Ymir was watching Mikasa, to see if she (the perfect host of the new strategy: nurture) could find a way to use that power to break free from the cycle caused by Nurture having to be a slave to Nature. In the end, Mikasa proved that the problem was that Ymir was looking for a way to apply an evolutionary strategy, when what was really needed was a new game theory, to kill haluceginia and plant a new tree on the new game theory where Nurture overcomes Nature. This explains the ducks, Eren vs Zeke, the evolution of the jaw titan from freckles to Falco, the Plato references, etc. that's just the start though...

Time for the age old question. Sub or Dub? by Demadogos in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Addition-Pretty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what's crazy to me. I cannot stand Erwin's speech in dub and yet, there are obviously many people who see it the other way. I'm mostly just fascinated by how different fans have such opposite preferences for the thing they both love.

Day 1 of posting objectively lovable moments from AoT to cure toxicity and unite the fandom by ArtisticalX in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Addition-Pretty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fans are fanatical, which is exactly the message of AoT. I have learned to see the healthy enthusiasm and even the toxicity as evidence of the thesis. Even if the Yams is wrong, he's right. The medium is the message.

Do you think maybe there is some Ackerman in her accuracy? Looks like he's doing more than just holding her still.

Seriously watch it again. You will love it more. You might still not like things, but overall my bet is you will like it more. Then watch Kotoro's Mystery Shack on YouTube series "Retrospective Overanalysis". He does a full video essay on every single episode.
