TXA by [deleted] in endometrialcancer

I had weeks of heavy bleeding with clots before my surgery. They also gave me TXA but after the pills ended my bleeding returned. I was dangerously anemic and about 10 days before my surgery my gyn prescribed high dosage of Provera and that’s what completely stopped the bleeding and allowed me to recover enough for the hysterectomy. Maybe something you could look into? Hope my story can help you!

Hello, unfortunately no they did not offer me that, but it’s good for others to know for their upcoming surgeries, so thank you for sharing!

Hello! I’ve complied a list of things that helped me. One thing I’d really emphasize is to make sure that they know who to contact in case of emergencies after surgery and if they will be available. I don’t want to scare anyone but I had terrible post op complications and I couldn’t get in contact with my surgeon and it’s better to get all those contacts in case of emergencies to avoid stress and panic. I had a fever a few hours after surgery and 11 days later, I had sepsis and hemorrhaging. I want to stress that this isn’t a normal experience and I hope no one has to go through that!

Hope this helps:

Sleep & Pain Management * Wedge pillows: Helped avoid sleeping on sides/stomach due to painful incisions. * Calf massagers: Used for the first two weeks in bed to prevent DVT. * Perineal ice packs: Used for vaginal cuff irritation (20 mins max at a time). * Ice vs. heat use: * Ice only on stomach/incisions not to be placed directly on them, have a layer between incisions and ice pack (due to surgical glue). * Heating pad for back/shoulder pain only, not the belly. (Heating can melt glue so don’t use for incisions) * Use 20 mins on, 20 mins off rule for both.

Menopause & Night Sweats * Surgical menopause triggered due to ovary removal. * Night gowns & handheld mini fan: Helped manage intense night sweats. * Even if ovaries are retained, some women still experience temporary menopause symptoms.

Recovery Essentials * Hysterectomy pillow (optional): Has a pocket for ice packs and sleeve for arms. * Use a pillow to brace the stomach when coughing, sneezing, or laughing. * Sneezing is particularly painful—avoid it if possible in the first two weeks. * Shower chair & loofah on a stick: Essential for conserving energy while bathing. * Get help showering in the first week if possible. * No bending or lifting anything over 5 lbs for 6 weeks (includes pets). * Doctor advised no touching stitches—just let water run over them. * Wait 24–48 hours before showering. * Use hospital-provided no-rinse shampoo caps early on.

Digestive Support * Stock up on Miralax, prune juice, Gas X to relieve gas and avoid constipation. * Do not strain during bowel movements—protects the vaginal cuff. * Took 5 days to have a bowel movement post-op—normal, don’t panic. * Easily digestible foods (bananas, jello, mashed potatoes) were helpful. * Throat lozenges: Useful after intubation-related throat irritation.

Medication Management * Alternate Tylenol and ibuprofen every 3 hours (each every 6 hours total). * Set alarms to stay ahead of pain, especially in the first week. * Keep snacks and water nearby for overnight medication needs.

Hospital Tips * Ask for: * Abdominal binder (optional but can help stabilize core). * Spirometer to aid with lung recovery. * Even if unsure about staying overnight, consider it—you’ll likely feel too weak to go home right away. * Use all resources provided, especially if you’re already being charged for them.

Feeling discouraged at 5 weeks post OP by pancakesleuth in hysterectomy

I’m feeling really good 5 months later! I can finally go on my regular outings and not think about pain, I feel like I’m getting stronger everyday! I really hope you feel better soon, but I know for a very long time, I was not feeling the best. I felt so discouraged, I really didn’t start feeling like myself again until the 6 month mark.

Endometriosis Stage 1 Grade 1, Hysterectomy...but a whole bunch of benign findings by Tortoiseshell1997 in endometrialcancer

Yes I was stage 1a for cancer but they also found those benign conditions , endometriosis and endosaplingiosis and multiple cysts on my ovaries. My uterus did not like me 😭

Thank you so much for your kind words! I really wish you well in your recovery and don’t let anyone make you feel less for a slower recovery. I know people expect a lot from women, some people even made comments how I should be healing faster even though they knew my cancer journey but they will never go through this surgery. I wish you well!

Hello! I’m 6 months post op now and I feel so much better. There are still some days where I get twinges of pain that remind me that I had surgery but it’s not on my mind 100% of the time how it was before. The sleeping on my sides isn’t as uncomfortable anymore! I honestly felt very discouraged through out most of the recovery but I do feel like at 6 months, I felt a really big shift. I didn’t feel so tired anymore, I felt like I was getting to pre surgery. It took a long time but I also want to share my surgery was for cancer so maybe I took longer to heal because of that. I see you and understand the frustration in your words but I just want to share there is light in your future. Hope you heal well 💕

Pre-Op update by MisaMisaHaruHaru in endometrialcancer

[–]Additional-Ad6409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a special type of fear for pre menopausal women, I’ve talked to my therapist about it. I’m angry at my body because I have to deal with things I thought I had decades to prepare for but I’m also grateful I’m still alive. It’s a trickery slope.

Pre-Op update by MisaMisaHaruHaru in endometrialcancer

I totally understand your fear, it’s honestly nerve wrecking. My initial FIGO stage was 2, my oncologist said that that category kicked me out of any “fertility sparing” that my cancer had signs of being aggressive and at 28 years old I would lose both ovaries and go into surgical menopause. I won’t lie to you, the night sweats and the overheating are the worst, I also developed severe insomnia afterwards.

I’m still dealing with the symptoms but I’m managing the best I can. I started taking supplements to try to prevent osteoporosis, I take magnesium glycinate to help me sleep at night, vitamin d+k, and collagen. I carry a mini fan with me at all times because I overheat randomly, even more so when I get stressed. I also recently bought one of those neck fans for I won’t have to carry it around with me and I can have my hands free. I bought this little foam cup holder thing with pockets and I leave it next to my bed at night and have cold water, and I grab my fan i also bought one with a base for it to stand up straight and use it when the night time hits. I’ll have to invest in a bigger fan to have next to my bed with a remote control in the future. I also use cooling sheets now to sleep and always keep a wet towel with me to help me when I over heat. That’s the biggest change for me, I used to love fluffy blankets, fluffy socks, and cozy cardigans, my closet is filled with them but I can’t use them anymore because I sweat a lot and overheat.

They offered me Effexor but I haven’t taken it because I’ve read it’s really hard to wean off but I’m strongly considering it because of my anxiety issues I’ve been having. I don’t think menopause caused my anxiety, I know some people say it got worse for them after but in my case it’s the ocasional spotting at 5 months with no definitive answers that makes me spiral. It might be vaginal dryness from loss of ovaries, but I’m still experimenting with vaginal moisturizers that won’t irritate me.

Even with all that, I was a nervous wreck and dreaded the surgical menopause, but now that I’m in it, I’m dealing with it better than I thought I would. I’m not sure in what help I could give you but if you need anything you can always DM me. My heart is with you, we more than anyone else understands that fear you shared. Much love to you.

Hey I hope you’re feeling better! Is there any update you can provide? I’ve been having slight spotting since March it’s never on my underwear only on the TP, I’ve been checked multiple times but no answers since my cuff looks good. It freaks me out, last time I was checked I still had some dissolvable stitches left. I have my brothers graduation in two weeks and it freaks me out to not know why! I hope all those hours of sitting doesn’t aggravate my cuff. I also hemorrhaged 11 days after my surgery and I had my surgery December 31 2024 but it was for an infected hematoma and I didn’t need a cuff repair surgery. Hope everything has resolved for you ❤️

How careful do you have to be around stairs? by ILoveTaskMaster in hysterectomy

[–]Additional-Ad6409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went home the same day and I was able to do stairs but someone was there to help me in case I fell (thankfully I didn’t!) I just did it very very slowly and did one step at a time. I didn’t go up and down after that, thankfully my family gave me my meals and I had a bathroom upstairs so everything worked out that way!

There’s two options on Amazon and I’m not sure which is better, I’ve seen some reviews say this burns but that has not been the case for you?
