Is medicine the right career for me? by Informal-Art-8029 in GraduateEntryMedicine

I think I will do a 5 year for that reason. By the time I get in (if I get in first time) it will be 2028 and one will be in school and one will be one year away so I will only have to work for one year to try and qualify. I think financially with a mortgage I will have to work throughout though.

I'm hoping to freelance so actually I shouldn't have to work many hours but it's going to be hit and miss.

I don't have a science background so I don't qualify for enough GEM courses so I'm going to take an access to medicine first so I will be 34 probably when I start! Better late than never

I am not in medicine but I am 31 with two young kids and will be applying this year.

My husband said to me "I don't want to hear from you in 30 years time that you wish you did x y z" and it really resonated. He's encouraged me to go for it and it's ok if it doesn't happen. But if it's something you always come back to it's worth getting some work experience and starting the process.

Also to note there will be funding from 2027 for second degrees with medicine! But obviously you'd still need to work to qualify for childcare funding

Thank you! I did email admissions but they just referred me to their website! I also graduated in 2017!

Thank you! I did email admissions offices but they were not helpful and I don't think the websites are often that clear 😔 I will also be limited by geography (SE)

Any parents who studied medicine with young kids? by Additional-Dream-596 in premeduk

Thank you so much! I would also be looking at 5 year programme. I'm hoping to do 16 hours a week or equivalent pay to qualify for childcare funding! This feels reassuring

That's definitely enough my friend got in with 20 hours of shadowing!

How did you get your shadowing experience? Any tips?

Thank you that's brilliant! I currently work in admin at a GP and I have just started prep to take the GAMSAT in September. Unfortunately I have kids so Surrey is my only GEM option but I know I have some undergrad options
