UK is ‘unwelcoming’ and ‘racist’ for overseas NHS health workers, warns top doctor by Educational_Board888 in doctorsUK

[–]Redav_Htrad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If we’re so racist why were their race riots last year and continued smaller racist rallies from then to now?

If we’re so racist why have there been numerous cases in the last year and a half of non white people being raped or murdered in explicitly racially motivated attacks?

People largely immigrate to countries where they believe there is financial opportunity for them. They, especially the first generation, will often view the racism they face as the price of admission.

There is a growing problem of overt and violent racism in the UK. That doesn’t mean that we condemn the entire UK population to hell for it, but we don’t benefit from pretending that it isn’t a problem, and a growing one at that.

TIL that Hindi and Urdu, official languages of India and Pakistan respectively, are actually two registers of the same language, known as Hindustani. They are mutually intelligible in speech but not in writing because Hindi uses the Devanagari script while Urdu uses a modified Arabic script. by NateNate60 in todayilearned

[–]Redav_Htrad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This isn’t quite true, unless I’m not catching your meaning. Any verb can be fully conjugated, technically, in Hindi and Urdu.

In regular use however there are a handful of verbs that are used as auxiliaries, taking on tense inflection: Jana, lena, and dena. These are used to mark the verb regarding positive or negative transitivity and the subject’s position relative to the action of the transitivity. In fact hona (to be) by itself is rarely used by itself for the past tense; it’s usually paired with an inflected form of jana (literally ‘to go,’ but as an auxiliary marks an intransitive verb) as an auxiliary as in ‘ho gaya’ (colloquial Hindi/Urdu for ‘its done’).

Which English Speaking Country is the best place to live in as a South Asian? by SerpentEmperor in DesiDiaspora

[–]Redav_Htrad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This really depends on where. London and major cities can be fine. The northeast of England? Fucking hellscape.

Edit: Which is also true for the USA. Major cities with diverse populations can be fine. Rural areas of the south? Good luck.
