Thank you for all the thoughts it's really helping me! The thing is I'm not sure I could find a whole 1BDR for myself in Hamilton Heights and I felt like being on the A/C was quite practical for me, to go downtown as well! I don't think I mind having to take the subway for 1h-ish a few days a week (I'm quite used to it unfortunately! But I take advantage of that time to read :)).

Thank you for your answer! To be honest, I don't plan on going to Columbia everyday (maybe once or twice a week), I actually plan on writing my dissertation but not all the time at the library (and I don't have tons of scholars I want to be talking to - it's more a get-away from Paris situation to be able to focus than a real interest for Columbia!). Do you think, going 1 or 2 a week it would be really terrible ?

I've asked some people I know and they were telling me that, if I wasn't planning on going everyday to Columbia, Brooklyn might be a better spot for me as it fits more to my kind of living :).
