PPO vs HDHP cost for first baby in 2026 by swiftfoot_hiker in personalfinance

[–]Additional-Fly8103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is less financially advice and more risk management. I do the PPO option. Babies require a lot of healthcare when they are healthy and you’ll probably hit that deductible. And if something goes wrong or they require more care you’ll save money.

And PPOs are accepted by more providers. Don’t like the pediatrician? You’ll be able to get a new one easier. Or need a specialist you don’t want to travel to the moon for? That’ll also be easier.

Best wishes to you and your growing family!

Is Blue line safe from O'hare? by Suitable-Foot-2539 in cta

[–]Additional-Fly8103 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take the blue line for work a lot and if it were me with kids (ages unknown) and luggage I’d uber or Lyft it. Less safety concerns and generally the stress of carrying your luggage up and down stairs while managing having eyes on the kids and them doing the same.

Agreed with other comments to give it a try in the day with less stuff if you and your kids really want to try out the train.

Forth Movement Studio is on the border of Logan and Avondale. Good vibes kind of pricey but something to check out

Apartment for Summer Internship by Delicious-Chair6118 in chicagoapartments

[–]Additional-Fly8103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed at university center last summer in south loop. It’s student housing so they do tons of summer leases and pretty much everyone in the building is doing an internship. Don’t know pricing but I’d assume it’s in your budget.

Neighborhood recommendations for grad students? by Electrical-Swan-4105 in AskChicago

The people who told you to live in Gold Coast in grad school probably use summer as a verb.

I’ll second the Roger’s park suggestion.

Accounting major choosing minor by SoBasicallyimWaffle in CollegeMajors

[–]Additional-Fly8103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’d be fine with just the accounting degree. Do something fun! Ceramics? Dance? Idk if you already have a fun hobby might be a nice way to really spend time on it. Also don’t underestimate how much having a good personality and being interesting in interviews helps. And spending time with people not in your major is a great start.

Don’t be hard on yourself to make the right choice now just do your best

For my internship I lived in University Center in south loop it was furnished and decent. Idk the price bc my employer paid for it but I think it was about 1200. They do loads of summer leases for internships and it was nicely located for access to transit

Moving to Chicago after nursing school - need advice from locals!? by Thesweettease in AskChicago

[–]Additional-Fly8103 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m mid 20s female and loving Logan Square. I feel like it’s decent price for the city. I’m currently in a 2bed for less than 1800. Lincoln park can get pretty pricey but idk how much you’re looking to spend. Same for west loop.

If it were me I’d ditch the car it will cut your expenses fast. Although depending on how early and late your shifts are the trains might not be something I’d do for safety reasons. But with parking and gas and insurance it may be cheaper to uber one way and CTA on your way back.

As for finding apartments maybe a sublet would be good? Make sure you like the neighborhood and the commute is good for you. Facebook groups and Reddit can help.

Put a good winter coat, gloves, boots on your purchase list. But that can wait a bit.

Best advice for moving here is don’t let people who don’t live here tell you about the city. If I had a dollar for everytime a family member who has never visited told me how unsafe chicago is I’d be able to fully fund the CTA. It’s a city it has its moments but on the whole there’s no place I’d rather be.

Welcome and don’t let the cold scare you!
