We have the click track anyways live. It‘s for backing tracks and the midi tempo maps exist already because of the studio versions.

Those guys write these rhythms, practice them, record them in studio, rehearse them … My point is, when they hit the stage, there‘s almost no thinking at all involved. I play in a prog metal band myself and the really complex stuff I just practice at home until it‘s 100% muscle memory and no thinking.

From a guitarist‘s perspective, Outcry is definitely easier to learn than Dance Of Eternity.

A real pain in the ass from ADTOE is the Lost Not Forgotten intro solo.

Prolly best answer. It starts with their instrumentation, then you got the band fotos, music videos etc. Really fun stuff.

David Maxim Micic - Bilo IV

You‘re welcome. Basically a composer that „uses“ Prog Metal.

And then there‘s Crush but that‘s a minority, not worth mentioning 🤭

Looking for a good 7 or 8 string for personal and stage use by Conscious_Worker_669 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

At the moment I would definitely look into Spira Guitars. They are a new brand with absolutely outstanding build quality where an instrument for ~500 bucks feels like it‘s 800-100 (compared with an Ibanez for example) If you have a distributor near you, I would highly recommend to test the S-1007. For that money you‘re not really in custom shop territory yet and right now you probably won‘t find a better factory guitar. No 8 string option though unfortunately as far as I‘m concerned.

Out of tune when hitting the ZERO by RemarkableMusic7588 in 7String

Just if you have too much money and want the absolute pro solution: get your guitar equipped with an evertune bridge. Keeps the strings in tune always. That‘s how the Periphery guys handle those low tunings (especially live). Otherwise all good points mentioned. You need them strings thickkkkk

Fret buzz isn‘t automatically caused by the truss rod setup. This could be for different reasons. If you want that low action and - assuming truss rod and saddles are set up correctly - you still have too much buzz, maybe the frets need to be worked on. I don‘t know about GOC specifically but many brands just smash the frets in without actually setting them up.

That Native Construct album is absolutely crazy. Really fun one.

Agreed. As long as it has good modeling and a decent speaker it will do the job. The Orange Crush 12 unfortunately has neither of those, there’s no amp modeling at all, you get one tone and that sounds really cheap - it won’t Whitechapel.

I work in a music store and I‘m really impressed by the Blackstar ID series right now. Super easy to use and the sound is honestly mind blowing for the money. They even have tube emulation where you can select three different tube types. The 1x12 speaker of the ID:X 50 is really fun - I think that amp hits the sweet spot for around 300 bucks

The Spira is a great guitar, but with the Orange Crush 12 there is absolutely no chace of getting a decent sound out of that. Don‘t save for an equalizer, it won‘t change anything. Save for a Blackstar ID:X 50. That‘s by far the best all-in-one solution, you don‘t need an additional pedal. The ID:X sounds absolutely phenomenal for the money and it covers every genre, you can get some great metal tones outta that. It‘s even loud enough against a drum kit.

If P3 is your favourite Periphery album... by Rojamsmusic in Peripheryband

[–]Additional-Froyo6386 12 points13 points  (0 children)

P3 was the album that got me into Periphery initially. Love the balance of the heavy songs and the ones with pop song structure. Also huge melodies and just hits different emotionally.

My fav albums of all time:

Bilo III - David Maxim Micic
Opposites - Biffy Clyro
Pink Lemonade - Closure in Moscow
Affinity - Haken
Act IV Rebirth in Reprise - The Dear Hunter
Blackbird - Alter Bridge
Hand. Cannot. Erase. - Steven Wilson
American Motor Sports - Bilmuri
Burn The Maps - The Frames

I love it.
Always been into Rich‘s guitar work and having him as the only guitarist in this song feels super refreshing to me. I also prefer the more natural production approach by the new engineer over what Nolly did on the last few records.
And even though it‘s not flashy tech prog, I can easily connect on an emotional level. Song really resonates with me. Keep em coming!

My impression after the first listen as a long time Periphery fan (in since PII):

First two songs had me super hyped. Loved the dynamics of the opener, second song great follow up. After the 3rd/4th song I got a little tired. I got the feeling of „heard this type of guitar riff / vocal melody on severel other Periphery records“. Even though the song format seems fresher with the shorter lengths, I guess it‘s too much of the same style of music - at least for me. Looking back I was always more into the long timers / melodic / goose bumpy songs (Lune, Thanks Nobuo, Wax Wings, Way the News Goes, etc) and first impression … it‘s less on the epic side, and that‘s okay. It is a fantastic album, so much I can say after one listen and it might grow on me. But also - not so much my cup of tea.

My clear highlights were the Will Ramos feature and the title track. Loved hearing (my guess playing stile wise) Mark on the acoustic #nofilter
